Welcome Back Mavericks!
Principal: Cort Haynes

Assistant Principal/ Athletic Director: Shane Paulus
Welcome to the 2022-23 school year!
We value students and family. The relationship between the school and each family plays a vital role in the success of each student. We look forward to partnering with you in this effort. Thank you to all who attended our Meet Your Teacher Night. We had a great turnout. Our student enrollment will be around 550 students as we begin the year: 8th grade – 280 ; 7th grade – 270.
School begins at 7:30 a.m. this year. All students will experience Mav Time from 7:30 – 8:00 a.m. each morning. It is imperative that students attend during this time as we focus on relationships, academics, and executive functioning. On Tuesdays, Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons will be facilitated by a research-based program, Second Step. Family Focus Fridays will be a time for each Mav Time to build rapport, collaborate, and most importantly have fun together.
A safety update that we are pleased to share is that all Secondary Maize schools (5-12) will be staffed with a full-time School Resource Officer. These three new positions will be paid for with grant money. Officer Pulver is set to begin with MSMS on August 22nd and will be housed in our front office area.
Please follow us on our brand new social media pages on Facebook and Instagram. We will communicate often with families and celebrate our Mavericks throughout the year. In order for optimal performance this year our Maverick team will #Huddle as we work together toward success!
Dress Code – Please wear clothing conducive for the learning environment.
Backpacks will be kept in lockers along with cell phones.
Students need their Chromebooks every day – FULLY charged.
Students failing one or more classes on Monday of each week are placed on the FOCUS list and are ineligible for practice/game participation until that grade is improved.
Please DO NOT drop off or pick up your child out on Silver Fox road.
AM and PM traffic may only enter the premises at the far east corner of our parking lot (off Silver Fox road); all other roads become EXIT ONLY at those times.
We are looking for a crossing guard to protect our students and regulate traffic flow, after school. Please contact the school if you are interested.
Students may enter the building starting at 6:45 a.m. and should sit in the Commons.
Students not in class by the 7:30 bell are considered tardy; Parents may excuse up to three beginning-of-day (7:30 a.m.) tardies, each semester).
Students may bring a water bottle. We have refilling stations located around the school.
If your child needs to leave school during the day, parents must come into the front office in order to sign them out of school. Students will only be released to another adult listed on their “Emergency Contact” list in Skyward.
I hope you find this school year to be one of the very best!
Welcome back to Maize South Middle School! My name is Lisa, and I am the nurse here at MSMS. As always, the nurse's office is available to our students as an essential health resource for all. If your child requires any medications, inhalers, etc., please contact me! Here is the link for our medication at school form.
