LHISD Board Briefs

October 2020

Clay Cole Retires from School Board

October 19, 2020 was the last official board meeting for Mr. Clay Cole. Mr. Cole has served on the Board of Trustees for Liberty Hill ISD for 13 years. Mr. Cole has been a lifelong Panther. His family moved to Liberty Hill in 1976 and he started second grade as a Panther. He graduated from Liberty Hill High School in 1988. One of his accomplishments as a Panther was winning a Silver medal in basketball, defeating San Antonio Cole High School and NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal along the way. It would be Shaq’s only loss in high school.

Keeping that competitive spirit, Mr. Cole always believed that Liberty Hill students could compete at the highest level of competition in any endeavor, academics or sports, and win championships. Under his leadership, LHISD has grown into an academic and athletic

powerhouse and a school district that is known as one of the very best in the State of Texas.

Mr. Cole has given countless hours in support of the LH community, the staff of LHISD, and most importantly the students. He is a pillar of the LH community in his service to LHISD and his church. He has also been a daily example of calm and steady leadership. Regardless of the situation, Mr. Cole handled everything with grace and class.

In our school district, we strive to “Build Champions.” Mr. Cole has walked the talk for 13 years and I know he will continue his support of LHISD beyond his time on the board.

Thank you for your service to LHISD, we are better because you helped lead us!

Action Items:

  • 2020-2021 District and Campus Improvement Plans. The board approved the district and campus plans as required by TEA.
  • Building commissioning services for new middle school. The 2015 Energy Code requires certain amounts of 3rd-party Building Commissioning services to verify proper operations and efficiencies of installed HVAC and electrical systems. LHISD solicited vendors via Request for Qualifications as this is a professional service. The board approved McKinstry Essention, LLC, out of Austin, TX as the most qualified provider for LHISD.
  • New Policy CW(LOCAL) - Naming Facilities policy. With two schools opening in the fall and many more to come, the board approved a new policy that defines the process for naming new school facilities or renaming current facilities. The board approved the new policy.
  • Consideration and possible action on approving additional iPads for students. The board approved the purchase of 198 iPads to replace outdated devices that do not run current education apps needed in our classrooms and devices to cover expected growth.
  • 2020-2021 academic calendar. The board approved a change to the current school calendar that makes Monday, November 9th a teacher workday. This day will allow teachers to plan for the next phase of students who are returning to in-person learning and help with the logistics of transition to the next grading period.
  • Business Office Reorganization. The board approved changing the open business office position from a data entry position to a Budget Analyst. This move will allow the business office to better serve the district and community by identifying candidates with specific business office skills.
  • Two additional Technology positions. The board approved the hiring of two additional technology department positions to help with the overload of technology work orders and the rise in maintenance due to the increased number of devices this school year. Those positions are a Helpdesk Support Specialist and Computer Support Technician.
