What is Human Trafficking?
Human trafficking is the illegal movement of people, typically for the purposes of forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation.Trafficking in persons is a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights. Every year, thousands of men, women and children fall into the hands of traffickers, in their own countries and abroad. Almost every country in the world is affected by trafficking, whether as a country of origin, transit or destination for victims.
Human Trafficking in India
Sex trafficking in India has not provoked the same degree of outrage. It's hard to know how many women and girls are trafficked in India, In the United States State Department the United Nations and India’s Human Rights Commission have all identified India as a major hub in the international sex trade, a global phenomenon that may involve upwards of 27 million people. India is the epicenter of human trafficking including 100 million people with 1.2 million children prostitutes. it tops the list of countries when it comes to traits destination and source of human trafficking victims.
Human Trafficking in South Africa
A series of workshops, hosted by the South African government and the International are being held to enlist the support of the media in raising the public profile of human trafficking. South Africa is commonly regarded as the main country of destination for trafficked persons in the region. In many cases, women and children are lured to South Africa with promises of jobs, education or marriage, only to be sold and sexually exploited in the country's major urban centers, or small towns and more rural environments.
