Classroom News
Math
Before spring break, we completed a unit on Data Analysis. We are now working on our Time unit. We first will begin with time to the hour and the half hour. We then move to time to the quarter hour and time to five-minute intervals. We finally will talk about A.M. and P.M.
- If you would like to work on math with your child at home, you have access to their eBook and lessons at home. Have them log into their ConnectEd account. Their password should be on their PW sheet, which can be found on Google Drive. If you are unable to find it, please send me an email and I will be happy to get it for you.
Writing
- This week students are working on their individual word sorts, paragraph writing, reading responses and blogs. Please ask your child what their writing goal is and how they are proving that they are working on it!
- In our paragraph writing this week, we will be writing how to complete a specific math concept.
- There should be at least 1 blog posted this week.
- Here is the link to your child's blog page. You can find their blog page by their initials. Feel free to leave comments on blog pages. If you could write 2 glows (things they are doing well) with 1 grow (things they need to work on). The support would be great!
Reading
Guided Reading
- 9:00-9:45: Parent Volunteers and I meet with your child, ask comprehension questions, and break apart unknown words. So far this school year, we have used Storia. Storia is an online, digital library.
- Your child will be put in new flexible groups starting this week!
- Students also work on writing, buddy read, read to self, and do RazKids. Feel free to do Raz Kids at home too!
Reading Strategy Time
- 9:45-10:15: Students are working on strategies during reading flooding time.
- Some of the strategies include relating ideas, context clues, distinguishing important information, literary elements, making judgments, inferences/conclusions, and text structures.

Google Drive Picture Folders
You should have received a 2016-17 2nd Grade Holtz Pictures Google invite from me.
This is where I will put all of the classroom pictures that I take this school year. Please feel free to add any pictures that you take as well into this folder.
Toy Policy
In addition, if students bring toys into the classroom, I do take them. The only way to get them back is if they go home and tell their parents that they chose to bring a toy into the classroom. The parent can then email me and let me know. I will give the toy back the following day. This truly helps students learn quickly not to bring toys into the classroom!
Thank you for the support!
