Dunn's Corners School

Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe

November 5, 2021

Good afternoon DCS!

The Westerly Police and Dunn's Corners Fire will be holding their annual Holiday Food Drive at Westerly Walmart on Saturday Nov. 6, 2021 from 1100 - 1400 hrs. All food collected will be donated to the Johnny Cake Food Pantry.

Virtual Town Halls about COVID-19 Vaccination for 5 to 11years old. Pediatricians will give a brief overview of 5 to 11year old vaccination and answer questions families might have on November 8.

  • At 6 p.m. with pediatrician Elizabeth Lange, MD, RIDOH Medical Director James McDonald, MD, MPH and Governor Dan McKee in English [facebook.com]; and
  • At 7 p.m. with pediatrician Carla Martin, MD and Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos in Spanish [facebook.com].

WPS conferences will be virtual. Teachers will be reaching out to you for scheduling your google meet. Some teachers may have you use the link to the google meet via your child's class google classroom. You can access your child's google classroom by clicking this link and signing in with your child's WPS email and password. Contact your child's teacher with google classroom access questions.

Conferences are November 17th. Students do not have school, but will be assigned asynchronous learning activities. Attendance will be based on completion of the activities.

This month, our schoolwide theme is skills for learning: listening, focusing attention, using self-talk to stay on-task, and being assertive when asking for help with a learning task. In our morning announcements and school assembly, we’ll be reminding students of these skills, which help students be successful learners.

Finally, remember to go directly to your child's teacher for any questions, concerns, positive feedback, or for information about the school day.

We will be using #dcsanchors all over social media. Look for it on twitter, Facebook, and Instagram!

Have a great weekend!

Mr. Morrone, Proud Principal of DCS!

Construction on the Roof Continues

Parent drop off times will be changing starting Monday, November 1, 2021. Parent drop off at the gym door will be from 8:20 am - 8:45 am. After 8:45 am, please park your car and walk your child to the main office. At the main entrance, press the button to your right and enter in the door to your right when instructed by office staff. Children will be considered tardy if arriving after 8:45 am. Thank you for your flexibility.

Attendance UPDATE

The realistic goal is to have less than 5% chronically absent, but ultimately 0%. Chronically absent is defined as being out 10% of the days in school. This data impacts our STAR rating. Currently, we are at 10% chronically absent. Keep up the great work!
