Kindness Council Happenings
The Shannon Park fifth grade Kindness Council has been keeping busy this year! We have monthly Zoom meetings and focus on how to “Make Life Better for Those Around Us”. Our monthly guest speakers have included Mrs. Malterud, our school Social Worker, Mrs. Burnett from Dakota Woodlands in Eagan, and Mrs. Durenberger, our school Kitchen Manager. These speakers have shared valuable information about things happening in our school and community to help others. We have also sponsored a food drive for the Rosemount Family Resource Center and selected the Spirit Days for this school year.
Kids are getting involved! During hybrid learning, our Kindness Council members were responsible for the daily announcements. “Welcome Back” signs made by Kindness Council members lined the hallways as students entered last week. In person students sign up to be Monday Morning greeters each week to welcome everyone back after the weekend. When new students come to Shannon Park, we have Kindness Council members ready to greet them with a small gift, a pamphlet about our school, and a welcoming smile.
Up next is our Kindness Boomerang project! Students are throwing out Kindness Boomerangs and doing Random Acts of Kindness. A display of these Boomerangs will be up soon. Stay tuned for more from the Kindness Council this year!

Exciting Heart Challenge Update
Shannon Park is truly an amazing community! We had 159 third, fourth and fifth grade students register for our Kids Heart Challenge. These students chose to keep their heart healthy by taking a challenge to be kind, move more, or drink more water. As of Friday, February 26, the Shannon Park community generously donated $11,052.69 to the American Heart Association. A HUGE thank you to our Shannon Park staff, students, families and community!
March is Music In Our Schools Month!
March is the month we celebrate the joy and power of music in our school and lives. Throughout March our morning announcements will include an all-school music listening trivia game, featuring music from around the globe. During the week of March 15-19, all students in grades 1-5 are invited to participate in music sharing during music classes, a time to sing or play an instrument for the class if they wish (digital classes will do music sharing through zoom). Look in March 5 Friday folder for specific times and details. Students should also listen for surprise musical performances in the parking lot during morning arrival times!

Attention Shannon Park Parents!
We have begun planning for our annual Shannon Park Curbside Picnic on May 20, and Silent Auction on May 19-23. We need YOUR help making the Silent Auction a success. Please take a second to consider if you, a spouse, grandparent, employer, or even neighbor could donate the following:
- Items (handmade goods, electronic items, larger giveaway items)
- Gift Cards (local businesses or your own business)
- Tickets (Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves, Lynx, Wild, United, Gophers, Theatre, Concert)
- Experiences (timeshares, hotel stays, ski passes, ride passes, waterpark passes etc.
Don't have any of these items? You can also donate your time for the silent auction. Help is needed with auction set up and collection of auction items. To donate or volunteer contact Amy Ubl at 651-245-1859, or email spbooster@gmail.com.
