Tiger Talk Back 2 School Edition #7

Today's Edition: Celebrations and School Assemblies

Please watch for our daily editions, weekdays 8/3 - 8/16!

We are SOOOO excited to start the new school year!!! And, we suspect that you might be, too!

To prepare us all for August 18, we are publishing Special Edition Tiger Talks each weekday leading up to Meet the Teacher Day and the First Day of School. In each Special Edition, we will cover a topic that we hope you will find reassuring and helpful.

And, certainly, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. It is a pleasure and a privilege to be of assistance to our Tiger Families.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

A Welcome From our Principal

It is with great pleasure that I extend a warm welcome to all of our new and returning families to West Cypress Hills Elementary School! There are so many reasons to celebrate our school, and it starts with your being a part of this magnificent community. West Cypress Hills Elementary is a learning community where every learner is nurtured, respected, and challenged. Here at WCHE we believe learning should be a social, inspiring journey full of dynamic experiences that build the love of life-long learning in all of our students. This year we will continue to explore all of the ways West Cypress teachers build personal, inspiring and authentic educational experiences for our learners.

I am thrilled that you have chosen West Cypress Hills Elementary as your child’s school. Our staff is highly-qualified, hard-working, and dedicated to growing strong learners and leaders here on our campus. We deeply appreciate your sharing your wonderful children with us here at WCHE. We treasure the opportunity to learn and grow together with our WCHE families.

If convenient for you to do so, please stop by our school Library, Wednesday, August 18, around 7:42 am, so that I can visit with you in person over a cup of coffee. Our fabulous PTO is sponsoring a Principal's Coffee the morning that our Tigers start their new school year. I look forward to meeting you there.

With warmest regards,

Melanie Beninga, Principal

To celebrate Tigers' birthdays, the classroom teacher will provide the student with a special birthday ticket that entitles him/her to a free, yummy, healthy treat from the cafeteria during lunchtime. (Summer birthdays or birthdays falling on other days that are not school days will be recognized so that no one is left out of the fun!)

We are mindful of parents' concerns about food being shared which is why we celebrate with the special lunch treats in the cafeteria in lieu of cupcakes, cakes, flowers, gifts being distributed in the birthday Tiger's classroom.

Classroom Parties!

Want to be in the know? Want to be first in line for fun? Then tell your Tiger's classroom teacher that you want to be a Class Parent. As a Class Parent, you are included in helping to organize classroom events.

Usually parents are contacted by the classroom teacher and/or Class Parents when it's time to have a class party. Our class parties are held on our official food exemption days. Therefore, it is permissible for the students to enjoy fun snacks, games, and gifts that make those days such fun.

Our food exemption days for possible class parties/celebrations are: October 21, December 15, February 4, February 11, May 26, and May 27.

Assemblies in the Gym on Friday Mornings

Tigers will enjoy assemblies in our Tiger Gym on Friday mornings from 7:45 - 8:00 am. Some of our assemblies will be school-wide to include all grade levels. Other assemblies will be for specified grade levels so that they can be recognized and rewarded appropriately for PAWSitive behavior and achievement.

Our first two assemblies will be attended by students only. They will be school-wide assemblies. The first is Friday, August 20 and the second is Friday August 27. Thereafter, parents are welcome to attend our assemblies, as desired.

To attend an assembly, you will need to obtain a visitor badge at the front office; so, be sure to bring a photo ID (driver's license or passport) with you on your first visit to the school. Once we have your photo ID loaded into the Raptor security system, you can sign in on your own at our Raptor kiosk--OR--even better just RSVP to the Receptionist the day before assembly so that she can have your visitor badge ready for you to pick up from the office.

We will post information about our assemblies on the WCHE school website calendar and in future editions of Tiger Talk. We will do our best to keep you informed so that you won't miss out on assemblies that could be of particular importance to you and your Tiger(s.)
