Montag's Blog

By Taylor Mulligan

Hi, I'm Montag, Guy Montag and here's my way of life. I made this blog to persuade people and tell them why I do what I do. Many people look at the world differently and I for one am not just an ordinary firemen. My job is to burn books and yes, I like it. Most days I just am out strolling the streets and hanging out with the new neighbor Clarrise well of course until she disappeared... But anyways I am here to prove a point to you. First of all in Ray Bradbury's book, Fahrenheit 451 there is a scene where Montag is in a difficult situation where he has to decide what to do; he can either let this woman in her house burn to the ground or he can go save her.

Well first of all you should know already that I burn books. Also in his first eight years of my employment I joined in the firemen's bestial sport of letting small animals loose and betting on which ones the Mechanical Hound would eat first.

I take pride in my work being a firemen and is it weird that I love the smell of the kerosene on the books that I burn? It's actually a quite normal smell for me by now. "I'm no perfect hero" (Bradbury) I have many different personalities. Before I met Clarisse I was no ordinary guy, I would set there in my backyard and just grill books. When I met Clarisse I didn't know what to think! All the sudden she's gone before I get a chance. I make sure I listen to her and feel connected I mean she is only 17. By the way I am a very good listener.

“There must be something in books, something we can’t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. You don’t stay for nothing.” (Ray Bradbury Fahrenheit 451)

My impact

My impact through my character in the book really did change my life. I met Clarisse and she seemed like a nice girl. I wonder what ever did happen to her. Did she just dissapear or die. Who knows?? I just need to burn books to keep me calm, cool, and collective.
