St. Louis School Music Program Wins Award
The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) awarded SLS the Music Merit Award in 2017. SLS was 1 of only 3 Catholic schools in the U.S. to earn this award, as well as 1 of 6 schools in the State of Indiana, and 1 of 92 in the U.S. This is the 4th consecutive year SLS has earned this award. Congratulations to music teacher Christy Kushman and her students!
2017 Indiana Food Service Employee of the Year
Congratulation Mrs. Carla Prickel. She has been named 2017 Indiana School Food Service Employee of the Year! Wow Carla, what an honor! Congratulations, we are all very proud of you.
Next week we begin our second and final round of ISTEP testing for the year. All students in grades 3-8 will be testing for a few days, each of the next two weeks.
As you know, student attendance becomes crucial during this time. The State requires that any missed test to be given one-on-one by a licensed teacher. At a smaller school like SLS, this can create staffing and scheduling issues.
You all (SLS parents) did a great job of avoiding appointments during the last round of testing. It was very much appreciated. Any opportunities for similar results this round would be awesome.

Amazon Smile account
Our Amazon Smile account was set up by the St. Louis PTO a few years ago, and continues to be a good way to support our school.
You simply go to smile.amazon.com and choose who you want to support. Every purchase you make on Amazon benefits us. Also, it's easy to remember because once you have used Amazon smile on a computer, it will remember that you support others and will remind you to use "smile".
The link below will take you to their website, where you can also find additional information regarding Amazon Smile. Please check it out!
* AmazonSmile is the same Amazon you know. Same products, same prices, same service.

Teacher Appreciation Week--volunteers needed
Hello SLS parents,
National teacher appreciation week is May 1st-5th. St. Louis School is blessed to have wonderful teachers and staff that make a lasting impact on our children’s lives. St. Louis PTO would like to give back to all the teachers and staff members to show them how much we appreciate all they do for our wonderful school community during this week. We would like to offer each staff member a free hour of their day to allow them to relax and do whatever they wish. In order to make this happen, we are asking for volunteers to cover the hour to allow our wonderful staff a well deserved break for all their hard work throughout the year. If you are willing to donate your time in appreciation to all the staff members we have a St. Louis School, please inform Brooke Maple at brookemaple@gmail.com.
Thanks,
Brooke Maple

Toothbrush Drive for Haiti
The Spanish Club of St. Louis Catholic School held a school-wide toothbrush and toothpaste drive in January. Everything collected was sent to schools in Gandou, Haiti through the St. Louis Haiti Ministry. In all, the school collected over five hundred toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste! In addition to this collection, each grade at St. Louis sponsors a student attending school in Gandou. Only 30% of families have enough to pay for tuition. Without the support of St. Louis, many students would not be able to attend school.
