Introducing Our New Staff
My name is Miss Therrien, and I am so excited and honored to be your child’'s first grade teacher! This will be my third year teaching first grade—but my first year here in Austin. I spent a short time teaching third grade as well; but if I’m being honest, first grade is my favorite!
I grew up in Connecticut, and as a child, I enjoyed playing sports (especially soccer) and spending time outside. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Connecticut in 2017.
Shortly after, I moved to Dallas, TX to become a teacher! In 2019, I earned my Master’s degree in Elementary Education from The Johns Hopkins University School of Education. I also earned my certification in special education and English as a Second Language during this time. I taught for a few years in Grand Prairie, TX before moving here to Austin. When I’m not teaching, you can find me spending time outside, reading a good book, or hanging out with my pets (or all three!).
Once again, I am so excited to meet you and to work with you this school year! It’s both an honor and a privilege to be your teacher!
SCORES Teacher: Emily Moranski will start 11/16
Hi! My name is Emily Moranski and I am the new special education teacher at Kiker Elementary. I have been in the field of early childhood education for the past 8 years and in the field of ABA therapy for the past 6 years. I graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, as well as from Arizona State University with a Master’s degree in Education.
I was born and raised in Texas, but I have been living in Orange County, California for the past 6 years. Last week, my husband and I moved to Austin with our 6 month old golden retriever pup and we are so excited to explore all that Austin has to offer. In my free time, I enjoy walking my dog, baking cookies, dancing at Zumba, and eating pizza with my husband.
I look forward to meeting your child and your family. Hoping to make this the best year yet!
Teaching Assistant: Kathy Thomas has already started
My name is Kathy Thomas and I am excited to join the Kiker Community! I have taught 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th grades as well as serving in the role of a Reading Specialist for 8 years. My most recent experience has been in Comal ISD where I served in administration both on the campus level and at central office.
I am a new resident of Austin but have spent a lot of time here over the years. I enjoy spending time with friends and family, reading, and traveling.
I look forward to serving the students and teachers at Kiker.

Look who got a RAVE (Messages are abbreviated as the GLOWING feedback was long!) Way to go!
Mrs. Shoppa has gone above and beyond to care for her students this year. My student has been able to learn and be challenged. Every interaction with Mrs. Shoppa reflects her kindness, patience, and love for her students.
Mrs. Haschke has done such a great job keeping everything on track for virtual and in-class learning! She's kept us apprised of all school updates and has such a fun and positive attitude. She's very engaging with the entire class.
Ms. Martin's patience, flexibility, and creativity are helping our kids have meaningful learning experiences in 5th grade. She's led fun science experiments that engage the students.
Ms. Krueger is so caring and even during these times of virtual learning she gives individual attention and knows each child's needs. She is easily reachable and quick in her responses as well.
Ms. Willie is absolutely amazing. She was an amazing in person teacher to my kindergartener last year. This year she's been able to pivot incredibly well to virtual teaching and then doing both!
Mrs. Haschke has made my daughter’s transition to kindergarten as smooth as possible, all while being virtual. Virtual kindergarten is something I didn’t think was possible, but she has managed the kids in classroom and on zoom so wonderfully.
Mrs. Boone has been wonderful keeping both virtual and in person students engaged and excited to learn. Both in person and virtual feel they are one class and have a great time learning together. Thank you for going the extra mile and being amazing!
Ms. Pooja is a wonderful teacher, we are seeing so much improvement in our Son after he started attending PPCD at Kiker. She gives so much love , care and encouragement to our Son. We parents have so much to learn from her. Thank you Ms.Pooja!
