CMoR Book Drive [Month of March]
March into Literacy Month is THIS MONTH, and to celebrate this important initiative, WDS is partnering for the 2nd year in a row with the Children's Museum of Richmond to support the Central Virginia Book Bank. We will be collecting new or gently used books!
The Central Virginia Book Bank donates books directly to children ages 0 - 13 and organizations who serve at-risk children throughout Central Virginia.
Drop any book donations off in the bins located in the 2nd & 3rd floor hallways! Last year, we collected an impressive 528 books. Let's strive for 600 or MORE this year!
Jason's Deli Fundraiser [Thursday, March 22nd]

Resource Update!
Music: Spring will finally be arriving in March, and we will celebrate in Music with songs about new life and flowers, and of course, Easter. We won't let St. Patrick's day pass without listening to some Irish and Celtic music and maybe singing about a leprechaun or two. We continue with Chapel songs adding Jesus Loves Me to the mix and with sign language!
Creative Movement: March is here and that means our little leprechauns will be going on a fitness hunt to find the lucky pot of gold in Creative Movement! We will also begin learning baseball/softball skills and enjoying a game or two of kickball!

Community News!
The grass area (fields) will remain property of the city and usable to the community. This new occupant of the school property will not be able to alter the fields -- important in an urban area with very little green space. Both WDS and WUMC are looking forward to the new community addition in a building that has been vacant far too long. Your attendance at this town hall meeting will provide you with an opportunity to hear from both Bon Secours and Andreas Addison, our area council representative. I encourage you to support Bon Secours as they work to better our community and extend the Patterson Avenue corridor towards our school and church. If you wish to express your support, please email Councilman Andreas Addison at andreas.addison@richmondgov.com

As a Kindergarten teacher, the weather man in our class got to put up either a lamb or a lion each day on our calendar. We would graph what we had more of, and look for trends in what we hoped was warming weather. But is there any truth in the saying? Weather folklore sayings are as colorful as our imagination. While many sayings are based on careful observations and turn out to be accurate, others are merely rhymes or beliefs of the people who came before u s.
Those people often believed that bad spirits could affect the weather adversely, so they were cautious as to what they did or did not do in certain situations. Those beliefs often included ideas that there should be a balance in weather and life. So, if a month came in bad (roaring like a lion), it should go out good and calm (docile, like a lamb).
With March being such a changeable month (especially in Virginia), in which we can see warm spring-like temperatures or late-season snowstorms, you can understand how this saying might hold true in some instances. We can only hope that if March starts off stormy it will end on a calm note, but the key word is hope.
That same hope holds true when we start our morning as lions. Not every day begins with a smile on our face. We can only hope that as that morning goes on, we are able to use our inner self to move past the lion to the docile lamb. It is important for us to remember that even our little ones can start the day with a roar! They look to us to help them find the calm and loving assurance that today is going to be a great day!
