Initiating a Lockdown

In the safety training, we discussed initiating a lockdown and that anyone can initiate a lockdown in an emergency situation. Hopefully, this is nothing we will ever have to experience, but just in case, here is the wording to use should you ever need to initiate a lockdown: “An emergency situation exists; we are now in building lockdown.”

Parent Survey

Please help encourage parents to give us their feedback at the parent survey link below.

Feedback gathered through this survey is used to guide district & campus-wide improvement efforts, allowing LISD to better serve students and their families. The deadline for completing the survey has been extended to Febraury 27th.

I have received word that the campus with the highest PARENT survey participation rate will get a prize. Chick-fil-A Cedar Park will be donating a special gift card treat to each teacher at the winning campus. Please keep communicating with your parents and encourage them to participate. So far we have only about 7% completion rate, so your encouragement may be the difference maker to get them to give us their input. Thank you in advance for your help with this! To encourage your participation, the staff member with the most creative communication to parents to encourage their participation will receive a duty free lunch/recess (classroom teacher) or have 30 minutes of coverage (any support staff) once a week between February 22nd - March 11th. That will be 3 days of duty free lunch/recess or 1 1/2 hours of coverage! Submit your creative communication to Vicky no later than Friday, February 19th by 10:00. The winning entry will be judged by a panel of judges.

Field Day Shirts

If you are interested in a Field Day shirt please fill out the attached form and make your check out to Cypress Elementary. Orders are due no later than February 22nd. If ordering multiple shirts we need separate order forms for each shirt ordered but only write one check.

Science Fair registration due

Junior Scientist Fair Coming to Cypress

Please encourage students to participate and help us communicate the Junior Scientist Science Fair to parents. You may use any of the information below as part or all of your communication. Please pay close attention to the deadline for registration which is February 26th.

We are so excited to announce a new event coming to Cypress this spring....a Junior Scientist Fair! Every child is invited and encouraged to participate! Students may work individually or in pairs. This Fair will be an extracurricular event with students expected to complete their project at home. Students may, however, seek guidance from their teacher if needed. There will be three categories for entries: Science Experiment, Reverse Engineering, or Invention. A special Junior Scientist Fair brag-tag will be awarded to all of our participants!

If your child wishes to participate, a signed permission is due by February 26, 2016. Please turn it in to your child’s homeroom teacher. For complete rules and information, see the documents attached to this email or visit the Cypress website for the document links!

Every child is a natural scientist and this is a great way to nurture their curious nature and show them that learning is fun! See you at the Junior Scientist Fair on April 28th!
