Park Terrace Elementary
August 25, 2021 Newsletter
Greetings Park Terrace Families!
The theme of this week is welcoming new faces into our school. On Monday, I had the opportunity to welcome our new staff into the school district and then the following day I had the opportunity to welcome our new kindergartners into Kinder Camp! It is so wonderful to see and meet all of these new people to our school district and I am truly excited for the educational and professional journey all of these people are about to begin!
Health and Safety Updates
Last evening, the school board took action to update the health and safety plan for the school year. Due to high virus transmission in Anoka County, we will be starting the school year with face masks– except while eating or outdoors. Refer to the message sent earlier today explaining the plan and process. Our model will allow us the flexibility to adapt to changing conditions in Anoka County with clearly defined points at which masking may change. Please note that by federal requirement, all students on buses will need to wear masks.
SLP Schools Online continues to be an option for families in all grade levels. A trimester commitment is required and enrollment is open until the end of the day Sunday, August 29.
Meet and Greet
Our Meet and Greet is next Wednesday, September 1, 3-6:30 p.m. In accordance with our updated mask policies, all visitors will need to wear a mask while inside Park Terrace.
Additionally, in order to reduce the number of visitors in the building at one time, we are asking families with a last name starting with A-G to come 3:00-4:00 p.m., those with a last name starting with H-O to come 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. and those with a last name starting with P-Z to come from 5:30-6:30 p.m. If this schedule does not work for your family, you are welcome to come to the session that works best for you.
Our goals are to spread out as much as possible, allow families more time with teachers and reduce congestion both in the school and in the parking lot. Thank you!
The school year is fast approaching. As we finalize our preparation, I am reminded of how truly grateful I am to work in this community. I hope everyone enjoys the last couple of weeks of summer and I look forward to seeing you at Meet and Greet next Wednesday!
Sincerely,
Mona Perkins
Principal
Meeting your child’s teacher
We will be hosting a meet and greet event at Park Terrace Elementary on Wednesday, September 1, from 3-6:30 p.m.. In order to reduce the number of visitors in the building at one time, we are asking families with a last name starting with A-G to come 3:00-4:00 p.m., those with a last name starting with H-O to come 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. and those with a last name starting with P-Z to come from 5:30-6:30 p.m. If this schedule does not work for your family, you are welcome to come to the session that works best for you.
All families also will have the opportunity to have a WebEx meeting or phone call with your child’s teacher during the first few weeks of school. This provides teachers and families some time to get to know each other and start the school year off in partnership.
Back to School
The Back-to-School Hub contains information and resources for families as we prepare for the 2021-2022 school year. Within the hub, you’ll find:
- School supply lists
- Free and Reduced-Price Meal and Education Benefits application
- Health Services – immunization forms, nut aware classroom guidelines and more
- Staff directory information
- Technology support and resources
- First Day of School Signs
- And more!
First Day of School Signs
We love to see students on the first day of school, so we created first day of school photo signs for each grade that families can print or pull up on their iPad and use in their first day of school photos. Don't forget to tag us and use #SLPPantherProud when you post your photos!
Enroll for voluntary supplemental student accident insurance
Accidents aren’t supposed to happen, but they do. School recess, one-day field trips and general day-to-day activities can all lead to injuries. Having coverage during school hours, or around the clock can ensure students get the care they need without financial hardship to their families. This program is completely voluntary and any enrolled student is eligible for coverage. Parents or guardians of students are responsible for enrollment and premium payment.

Getting to and from school
Bussing
If your child rides the bus, bus information, including bus stop, pick up and drop off times is expected to be mailed to homes the week of August 23. Please plan for your student to ride the bus on the first day of school to help us work out all of our routines and eliminate as much confusion as possible.
Drop Off
Families may drop off students at the front door beginning at 9 a.m.; however, they will not be released to go to their classroom until 9:10 a.m. Prior to 9:10 a.m., students will be supervised in the gym (students should bring a book to read).
Pick Up
All parent pick up should be done from the vehicle. Similar to last year, please wait in your vehicle. A staff member will call for your student inside the school and have them ready nearby the front door as you pull up closer to the front door. Additionally, please remember to form two lines to reduce the traffic on Terrace Road and to zipper merge at the top of the parking lot. Please see the map below for reference.
Changes may need to be made to our drop off and pick up procedures as the year goes on depending on traffic or other variables. If changes do need to be made, we will be sure to communicate with you.
