Ku Klux Klan
The Ku Klux Klan was established in 1865, after the Civil War. The Klan was formed because the confederates lost the Civil War and wanted to retaliate. The Klan was formed of angry Southerners who did not believe blacks should have the right to be free. In 1866, Klan members in Tennesee murderd 46 people, injured 70 others and left churches and schools burned to the ground. The Klan tried to influence the 1868 presidential election by murdering thousands of black voters thought to vote republican instead of democratic. As a result of the Klans violence many legislative acts were enabled to stop the violence.
