Background
Sickle cell anemia, also called sickle cell disease, is a disease in which red blood cells are sickle shaped. Sickle shaped means they are shaped like cresents.Normally red blood cells are kind of shaped like a donut. Comparing the two sickle cells are tough ans sticky which causes clumping which can eventually turn into blockage of blood flow. Blockage of bloodflow can cause pain and eventually organ damage.
