Irmo Elementary Family Updates
#HeartoftheHive September 12-16
A Note From Your Principal
Dear IES Families,
On September 13th, you will receive your student's Curriculum Night video at 8am from your child's teacher. Please watch this video to learn important grade level and classroom specific information. If you have any questions, you may wish to participate in the Virtual Curriculum Night google meet on 9/14 between 5:00-5:45 pm. We released the video 24 hours before the live virtual meet to allow you time to view it and form questions if needed. The invite to this Curriculum Night Question and Answer meeting link will be sent by your child's teacher before the evening of the 14th. If you have more than one student at IES, you will have the opportunity to visit multiple online meetings within the 45 minute period, if needed, to ask questions. This is not a requirement but an opportunity to have your child's teacher in a live virtual platform for any questions you may have about the video released.
Don't forget to mark your calendars for September 16th and our Irmo Cluster Night at the Irmo High School football game. We want to see all of our bees and families dressed in IES shirts and/or yellow and black. I look forward to representing the heart of the hive in a BIG way at IHS! #irmostrong

Dismissal Updates/Transportation Changes: Keeping our Bees Safe
Irmo Elementary and your bees need your help! Safety is the top priority. We have noted a concern with constant transportation changes that are confusing and often scary to our young students.
Please review the updates below, in detail, as we consistently reflect on and refine our process for the protection of our students:
Beginning September 12th, we are now implementing a cut off time for transportation changes of 1:45 pm to ensure the safety of all students and clear communication with all staff of these changes. In the very rare case of a family emergency, a change past 1:45 would be allowable.
If a change to transportation is made, the following is required:
First: The parent/guardian must call the front office. Teachers often cannot check email throughout the day consistently as they are teaching.
Second: The parent/guardian would then be prompted to email the teacher AND include the designated front office staff members as an additional layer: Kim Weber kweber@lexrich5.org and/or Robin Looby rlooby@lexrich5.org. This is for security purposes as we can’t verify a person’s identity by phone.
Office staff will then call the teacher by walkie and/or phone and update the change of transportation document for Irmo Elementary. Teachers will know that there should not be any changes added to the document after 1:45 pm and will check it at that time for any final updates.
Shatter the Myth
BreakoutEDU
IES will be hosting a BreakoutEDU Club this school year on the last Monday of the month after school from 3-4pm.
Dates include:
Oct. 31
Nov. 28
Jan 30
Feb. 27
Mar. 27
Apr. 24
Students can sign up NOW for the 22-23 school year to reserve their spot. There will be only one club this year, instead of two separate semesters. We are looking for current 3-5th graders who enjoy a challenge that will strengthen their brain and communication skills! The club is sponsored by Mrs. Chapman, 2nd grade teacher, and students will meet in her room on the meeting dates. We have limited space with 16 spots and they are first come first served. Semester price is $20 and includes snack, game materials, and prizes. Please hold all payments until you have received a confirmation email!.
What is BreakoutEDU? Breakout EDU is an immersive learning game that involves a box filled with surprises that is closed with multiple locks with specific clues around the room. Students must put the clues together to figure out which locks they can unlock with the correct codes. Are you up for the challenge?
