What have we been up to? Where are we going?
K/1: Zoology
Animal Research
Zoo STEM Challenge
Participate in a decision making lesson by analyzing and determining the best applicant for a job at the zoo.
2nd Grade: Ocean
-Compare and contrast the different ocean zones and then research animals that live in the zones
-Compare and contrast the characteristics of fish and people
-Analyze why oceans are important to people and the importance of protecting them
3rd Grade: Consumer Scientists
- What are common tactics to persuade buyers in advertisements?
- How do products compare among brands?
4th Grade: Camp Interdependence
Research Everglades N.P. and then create an electronic brochure, postcard, or news article showing their understanding of the interdependencies that exist in Everglades N.P.
Participate in a Metaphorical Expression Lesson comparing snow to ice in a direct analogy.
Plan a trip to our national parks
5th Grade: Epidemic
Topics of study will include viruses vs. bacterial infections, epidemics such as typhoid fever, Ebola, & the flu.
Students will participate in the diagnosis of a disease that has caused an epidemic and develop a plan to reduce or eliminate the possibility of a similar outbreak.
While learning about these topics, students will have opportunities to think critically, develop criteria for making wise decisions, engage in research skills, and develop the skills to become young scientists.
