Principal's Message
Skyline K-8 Community,
Thanks for being such an amazing and supportive community. Please sign up for conferences on November 19th and 20th. I encourage you to meet with specialists in addition to classroom teachers.
Your child(ren) might have commented they haven’t seen me at school lately. This week I was at two district trainings and also took a sick day. Melissa Dunn subs for me on the days I am out, and we have a sub in the building covering her responsibilities. I am helping support my mother with a transition in her life as she was put on hospice last week. There are a lot of unknowns and I may be out of the building over the next few weeks. Please know I will be communicating with staff regularly and securing an administrative sub if I am gone for an extended amount of time.
Have a great weekend!

Counselor's Corner
Hello Skyline families,
Fall is here, and with it brings Bullying Prevention Month. With the Kindergarten and First Grade, this means lessons about friendship and bucket filling. My Second through Fifth-grade lessons will be skill based to help students be upstanders instead of bystanders. Friday, October 12th, during the teacher in-service, I will be attending the Oregon School Counselor Association’s annual conference. The opening speaker will be Trudy Ludwig, a local author who writes about bullying. I had the opportunity to work with Trudy in a previous school district and find her books particularly useful for students and families. She has some fantastic tips for what you can do to stand up to bullying that I will be sharing with students. Parents can help students by practicing assertiveness skills and helping them understand the difference between tattling and reporting. Reporting when someone is being unsafe or unkind is an essential part of being an upstander. Oregon has an excellent resource for anonymous reporting called the SAFEOREGON tip line. You can report bullying, violence, drugs or harm you see or hear at school online at safeoregon.com, by email tip@safeoregon.com or by call or text at 844-4-SAFE-OR (844-472-3367).
Have a great week,

IB Corner
This week we had our first IB Learner Profile Trait assembly. It was so much fun to see the whole school come together to celebrate amazing students who demonstrated how to be open-minded for the month of September. I am attaching a link to the pictures that I took.
I can not wait to see how Skyline models this!

TAG Information
On Monday the Second-grade students will be taking the Second Grade Intellectual TAG screener. This test will just be used as a screener as there are 9 sections to the test and the students will only be taking a portion of the test, not the whole test. If your student's score is high, you will be notified and you can nominate your student to take the full test. Your student's teacher should have sent home a parent letter last week.
Nomination forms for TAG are still available. Please let me know if you have any questions. I am happy to help with anything.

Donations for Playground Equipment
Are your kids enjoying the new Gaga Ball Pit? If you haven’t heard about it yet, ask about it over dinner tonight! Most everyone is GAGA for Gaga Ball!
The PTA is looking for donations to help offset the cost of creating the new structure that is being enjoyed by all age groups at our school. You can donate by:
(1) Check - Please make checks out to “Skyline PTA,” and include that it’s for “Gaga Ball.” Place the check in the PTA’s inbox in the office.
(2) PayPal - PayPal.Me/skylinepta Please add “Gaga Ball” to the special instructions/note area.
Skyline Student Directory
This year, everyone will receive a FREE mobile and emailed version (pdf) of the Skyline Student Directory! If you’re happy with these versions, you’re all set! There’s no need to fill out any additional forms.
If you’d like a printed copy of the Directory (it’s the pdf version printed on 8.5 x 11 paper and stapled), it costs $5 for non-PTA members:
* Please write a check to “Skyline PTA,” note that it’s for a printed copy of the Directory, and place it in the PTA’s box in the office.
* Or, place an order online: https://form.jotform.us/72260673743155
If you are a PTA member and would also like a FREE printed copy of the Directory, please send an email to Kristin Rader with your request (kristin@kristinrader.com).
Kristin can’t get going on the Directory until everyone has turned in their Student Verification Form. Forms were mailed to families before the start of school. Additional Student Verification Forms have been sent home with those students who had yet to turn one in. Please check that yours is in!
Thank you!
Thank you to Amy Barnickel, Sara Bowersox, Marianne Halt, Susan Heffernan, Katie Overstreet, Judy Salter, and Christina Yager for making the time to do a world of good at the PPS Clothing Closet on Monday!

Confessions of a Foundation/PTA
We know many of you were shocked at the Foundation/PTA fundraising goal of $135,000, unveiled at Back to School night, but we're going to let you in on a little secret.........Skyline has raised money like this before! In past years we have raised anywhere from $100,000 to $120,000! We just did it quietly, behind the scenes. This year we are being upfront and LOUD! We are small, but we are mighty! And when all of us work together, we can do BIG things. So don't be intimidated by these large numbers. Remember that the numbers break down to $500 / family or a monthly recurring donation of $42 / month, but we will take anything you are willing to give!
Every dollar helps us build and support a community and a learning environment that are AMAZING for our kids! We only get ONE chance to educate our kids and we need to do it right the FIRST time. So show your kids that you believe education is important and that you are investing in them!

We promise to keep you informed of our fundraising status via the Skyline newsletter and using our amazing new Feed the Eagle sign! So far we have raised $3574!! Our thanks to all the families who have committed to recurring donations for this year, or who have written cheques. You are Feeding the Eagle!! THANK YOU for partnering with us!
Sincerely,
Your friendly neighborhood Foundation and PTA

Come to the Skyline Clothing Exchange, one of our Skyline Auction Community Parties. Bring clothes, shoes, jewelry, and accessories that you don't want anymore. Also, bring friends! Bella Organic Farm's Corn Maze
It's officially fall & Skyline is selling tickets to Bella Organic Farm's CORN MAZE. Tickets are $8/adults, $6/kids 6-12, $6/seniors 65+ and kids 5 and under are free (no ticket needed for littles). When we've sold as many tickets as we can, Bella splits the costs with us so our PTA makes 50% on every ticket!
The corn maze tickets can be used any day from now through October 31. (Please note they recommend avoiding the middle two weekends in October, tickets won't let you skip a line, these tickets are for the regular corn maze - not the haunted maze)
Use this link to purchase tickets via PayPal. I'll make sure you get your tickets by sending home with your oldest child, or whatever method is convenient. Please contact me if you have a specific request. Thanks for supporting our school and community!
