SARANAC LAKE HIGH SCHOOL

JANUARY 2021 NEWSLETTER

Hello SLHS Families

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable holiday season. I want to thank all the families for their support and encouragement this year. Please continue to communicate with your child's teachers and let us know if we can help in any way. We are looking forward to 2021 and hoping for a successful year.

Showing Holiday Spirit

Before our holiday break, we had a holiday spirit competition on Monday and Tuesday. We want to congratulate Sabine Denkenberger, Phoebe Peer and Rione Symonds for winning the free pizzas. I want to thank the Junior Class officers for helping with these efforts.

Midterm & Regents Exams

In the past, the we had a midterm/ regents week in late January. Due to our current situation, regent exams for January have been cancelled and teachers will not be giving heavily weighted midterm exams. Our schedule will remain the same for the week of January 25-29. We still haven't heard any new information about the June Regents Exams.

There’s a Musical This Year!

We are proud to announce the 2021 Spring musical: "Oklahoma!" The show will be performed in a "cast album" format complete with song and dialog. While nothing about this year is traditional, we take pride in the great tradition of musical theatre here at SLHS! Chorus students, please sign up on the sheet issued to you through Google Classroom. Anyone else interested, please contact Mr. Benware, benwaredre@slcs.org. Shake off the blues, get out there!

News & Updates

Track, Alpine Skiing & Nordic Skiing are up and running! If you are interested in joining these teams please contact these coaches: Track - Coach Cy Ellsworth - ellsworcyr@slcs.org, Alpine Skiing - Coach Linda Brousseau - brousselin@slcs.org & Nordic Skiing - Coach Keith Kogut - kogutkei@slcs.org

We did tighten up our cell policy this past week. Students can only have their phones out during lunch. We feel the cell phones are a distraction for many of our students and get in the way of them paying attention during meets and getting their work done.

Mrs. Pino did announce this week that school meals will continue to be free until the end of the school year. If you have any questions, please call her at 897-1462.

The Board of Education approved a change to the district calendar at their last meeting.

- Friday, February 12th will be a regular school day (was scheduled as a day off for Winter Carnival)

- Monday - Wednesday, February 15-17: Presidents Day Recess (the day off has been moved to Wednesday)

Students need to continue to check in daily with their homeroom teachers regardless if they are in school or not.

Our second quarter/ first semester grades will be available on the SchoolTool parent portal on Wednesday, February 3rd. If you don’t have access to the parent portal, please email your request along with your email address to Diana Schwartz at schwartdia@slcs.org. Please follow us on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and our website.

Take care,

Joshua Dann, Principal
