Class of 2018 Commencement
June 3, 2018
Congratulations, Class of 2018
Celebrating a Common Achievement
Graduation is a time when an entire cohort of students celebrate a common achievement. The Class of 2018 is made up of a diverse group of students with various career and college plans. The commencement ceremony will be a special time to recognize their achievement of the state's graduation requirements for a diploma.
Graduation is different than an awards ceremony, and although it would be nice to celebrate individual accomplishments, the main purpose of the ceremony is to honor the graduates. Following tradition the top graduates of the class will be recognized individually. Other achievements are noted through honor cords or denoted in writing in the graduation pamphlet.
Valedictorian and Salutatorian

She plans to participate in cross country and track while at Bowling Green State University.
Emily Wilmsen is LaPorte High School’s Salutatorian candidate for the Class of 2018. She is the daughter of Bill and Michelle Wilmsen. She plans to attend Purdue University to study Engineering.

General Information
Orders for caps and gowns have been taken and distributed to students. Students must adhere to the standard graduation regalia. Caps are to remain plain and are not to be decorated. Students may wear cords associated with Tri-Music, National Honor Society, Technical Honors Society, or the Military (Red, White, and Blue cord).
The service will be held at Kiwanis Field (weather permitting). If the forecast forces the event inside, the ceremony will take place in Slicer Gym. An announcement will be made through social media and Skyward on Sunday morning, if the venue needs to change due to the weather. This usually occurs by 10:00 a.m., but can vary depending on the weather. Please understand that seating is somewhat limited inside and students will be allotted six (6) tickets for guests. If a student does not need all six tickets, we ask that they be given to a classmate or turned in to the counseling office to be redistributed.
Small children occupying a seat must also have a ticket. Family members are asked to arrive together to ensure seating together.
Sale of commencement tickets is strictly prohibited. Students are responsible for safeguarding their tickets.
Parking
Parents and students are encouraged to park in the LPHS "I" Street and "F" Street parking lots for Commencement 2018. Construction at Handley Elementary School and the new Performing Arts Center has restricted some parking and traffic. Please plan accordingly.
