School Board Appreciation Month

January is LTISD School Board Appreciation Month, and we are very pleased that we had an opportunity to express our appreciation face to face when a member of the Board, Mr. Alex Alexander, joined us for our Friday morning assembly on January 26.

Mr. Alexander, a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University, was elected to the Board in 2010. His professional experiences are in the fields of distance education, ministry, and higher education.

We are thankful to have such a caring and dedicated Board of Trustees. Please join us in expressing our appreciation to Mr. Alex Alexander and to all other members of the LTISD School Board for the many ways that they make West Cypress Hills Elementary such a great place to learn and grow.

Last year we completely sold out of yearbooks!

It's not too late to purchase a yearbook. They can be purchased through January 31 for $30 at www.balfour.com Just type West Cypress Hills Elementary in the search bar. At that same website, you can add a prideline, too. For more information, contact Ms. Kearns or Ms. Brymer or click here.

Helping Everyone Respect Others

WCHE Be A HERO Week, January 29 through February 2

Our campus goal for HERO Week is for West Cypress Hills Elementary students and teachers to work together to increase awareness of our Anti-bullying Rules:

  1. We will not bully others.
  2. We will try to help students who are bullied.
  3. We will try to include students who are left out.
  4. If we know that somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home.

Each day, Monday through Thursday, we will focus on a different rule, culminating in a Friday anti-bullying presentation at the school assembly. EVERYONE IS ENCOURAGED TO DRESS LIKE A SUPERHERO ON FRIDAY, February 2!

Family Activity (**OPTIONAL Activity Due Thursday, February 1. See #3 below for details. **)

1. Share with your child(ren) a story from your own life about a time when you were bullied or when you acted as the HERO for someone else who was experiencing bullying. Ask your child(ren) to share a story of their own.
2. Here are questions you and your child(ren) can discuss:
  • How can we help students who are bullied?
  • Do you use your words?
  • Are they peaceful words or hurtful words?
  • Do you stand up to a bully by acting like a bully?
  • What is the BEST way to stand up for someone being bullied **Optional**:
3. Ask your child(ren) to choose one of their favorite Superpower Pillars and create a

picture to illustrate what that pillar means. Please have your child(ren) turn in the

picture to the teacher(s) by Thursday, February 1. The Pillars are Trustworthiness,

Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.
