AUGUST 16, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
Dear Park Terrace Families,
I hope everyone had a great summer and you are ready to begin the start of another fabulous school year. Ready or not, here comes the 2023-2024 school year!!
I love the start of the school year. There’s always so much excitement and so much to look forward to. To those of you who will be new to Park Terrace, please know your student will quickly make friends and become part of our school community. Our teachers are hard at work planning for their arrival, and we can’t wait to get to know your family and student and help them get to know their classmates.
The first day of school is on Tuesday, September 5, 2023. We are including here important items you will need to know as the start of the school year approaches.
I can’t wait to get to know each of you and your families, as well as for you to get to know each other. Our Park Terrace community is incredible and I’m honored to be part of it. I hope you enjoy the last few weeks of summer and are ready to come back on September 5!
Sincerely,
Mona Perkins

Meet your child’s teacher on August 30
We will be hosting a Meet and Greet event at Park Terrace Elementary on Wednesday, August 30, 4-6 p.m. We want each family to have time and space to explore our school, meet their child’s teachers and bring in school supplies.
If you are able, please come at the designated time:
4-5 p.m. – students with last names starting with A-M
5-6 p.m. – students with the last names starting with N-Z
We look forward to seeing everyone! Before our Meet and Greet event, watch for a welcome message from your student’s teacher that they will send to the email address we have on file for you.
Getting to and from school
If your child rides the bus, bus information, including bus stop, pick up and drop off times is expected to be mailed to homes the week of August 21. Please plan for your student to ride the bus on the first day of school to help us work out all of our routines and eliminate as much confusion as possible.
If your child will be dropped off and picked up by a parent, we ask that you follow the below procedures to facilitate safe and effective drop off and pick up routines:
Drop off: Families may drop off students at the front door beginning at 9 a.m. Students will be released to go to their classroom at 9:10 a.m. Until then, students will be able to eat breakfast in the cafeteria. Please do not drop students off before 9 a.m.
Pick up: For the safety of our students, we prefer families stay in their car for student dismissal. As you drive up, please follow the line of cars along the far side (south side) of the parking lot. A staff member will ask who you are picking up, send that information to a staff member inside and then your child will leave the building as you pull closer to the main entrance. Please be mindful and observant of any families walking through the parking lot..
Parking: Families may choose to park and walk up to the building. As you approach the school, a staff member will ask who you are picking up and send that information to a staff member inside for student release. After greeting your child, be sure to yield to the crossing guard and use the crosswalk to return to your vehicle and ensure your child is close by and safe returning to your vehicle.

Back-to-School Hub
Visit the Back-to-School hub at SpringLakeParkSchools.org/BackToSchool for additional information and resources. This is where to find school supply lists, Free and Reduced Price Meals and Education Benefits application and information from Nutrition Services, before and after school childcare (Learning Ventures), iPad preparation information and more.
Meals for the 2023-2024 school year
New this year, one breakfast and one lunch are provided to students at school free of charge each school day. If your child wants extra food items, funds need to be in a student’s meal account which can be done in Campus Parent Portal. While meals are provided without charge, we do ask families who may qualify to complete an application for Educational Benefits. These benefits help families and provide important funding to our school.
