First Grade News

Mrs. Baker, Room 22

Highlights from Week 11: Nov. 9-Nov. 13

Hello Families! It was a another great week in First Grade. In math, we worked on problem-solving skills using our 10 frames as we read story problems with 3 addends. For writing this week we were able to write letters to Veterans. We started to talk about our family heritage, and also introduced some key words to our new social studies unit.

At conferences, I was pleased to learn that many students are using their Toolbox emotional regulation strategies at home. In our Friday Folders, I sent a flier that describes all of the tools, as some families wanted to use this common language at home with their children.

We look forward to a wonderful week next week with our new Top Dog, Taylor!

Check out our classroom updates, and as always, be sure to contact me with any questions. Hope you're enjoying some family time this weekend.

Heritage Dolls

For this unit, we want families to spend time together and share your heritage with your child. The doll only allows for a bit of representation, so children are welcome to add more details to this project through a poster, sharing of pictures, books, and traditional items. Creative and informative visuals are welcome. Thanks!

New Volunteer Opportunites After Thanksgiving

We are ready for volunteers to join us during our reading block from 9:50-11:30 daily. You can come once, weekly, or monthly, whatever is best for you. Follow the link below to sign up for a time that best fits your needs.

During this time, you can expect to support students at their seats, as they're working independently. On some days, there might also be classroom materials to prep (copies, cutting, filing and organizing)

Hour of Code

Oak Creek is excited to participate in the Hour of Code again this year! Please take a look at the website to learn more about this wonderful opportunity.

Each classroom needs 4 volunteers to make this project a success. Our class will participate on Thursday, December 10 from 9:15-10:15. Follow the link below to sign up and get more information. Thanks!
