PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
NAPLAN
As most of you would be aware, this week, we had a little bit of excitement with our NAPALN assessment.
You would have heard in the news or read in the papers that this was a National problem and not isolated to any one area. Most of the issues related to a connectivity problem on the Tuesday, (first day of the assessment), but were slowly rectified by Thursday.
Today I received an update from CEWA. I am aware that daily meetings have been held since Tuesday by the On-line Assessment Working Group (OAWG) and the Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority (ACARA) to determine a just and equitable resolution to the problems encountered by many students on Tuesday during the writing assessment. CEWA has representation on OAWG.
OAWG and ACARA have been pursuing a wide range of possibilities to reduce any negative impact that might have occurred for students. A meeting was held yesterday and a recommendation was reached. This recommendation is now awaiting approval from the Australian Education Senior Officials Committee (AESOC), the authority that needs to ratify the recommendation before it can be enacted. As soon as a decision has been reached, all schools will be informed via the right agencies. For us this will be through ACARA and the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA).
As Principal at Mary’s Mount Primary School, and as a staff we have also expressed our concerns about this issue. Please be reassured that SCSA and ACARA are conscious of these concerns and that ongoing conversations and review of the impact of Tuesday’s difficulties with the assessments continue to take place as detailed above.
I will forward more information to parents as it arrives.
RECONCILIATION PARENT WORKSHOP
I look forward to seeing as many parents as possible from our Year 3 class at this Tuesday’s, ‘Reconciliation Parent Workshop.’ Please be aware that the workshop will be at the Holy Family Parish Hall, commencing at 6.00 pm. Fr. Greg Donovan will be our facilitator for the evening.
CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to all our students who participated in our annual Cross Country. Again, it was fantastic to see the children running and just trying their best. We had some students who ran the whole course, some who walked and ran the course, some who walked the whole course and so on….however, it didn’t matter. The most important thing was that all our students had FUN.
A big thank you to Mrs Hayward for organising and preparing our carnival. Carnivals are always big events to organise and do take many hours of work, so many thanks Emma.
God Bless you all and your families.

MUSIC NEWS
CHOIR NOTICE -
A reminder Choir has now moved to Wednesday mornings, 8.15am start. With One Big Voice and the Catholic Performing Arts Festival fast approaching it is important that Choir members are prompt to rehearsals.
A BIG THANK YOU TO THE P&F
It has been an exciting start to Term 2 with the arrival of new instruments, movement props and a keyboard in the Music Room. Students across all year groups have already started using these new resources to enhance our music time. From Kindy to Year 4 moving to music with scarves, to Year 5 and 6 students creating ensemble performances with classroom percussion. And all year levels benefiting from the easily accessible keyboard now set up in the room.
As the MMPS Choir rehearses in preparation for upcoming Term 3 events, the keyboard has been a welcomed addition to our Wednesday mornings. There are many eager students looking forward to sharing their piano talents with their peers and I look forward to the opportunities having the keyboard will create.

Or, can you help ring around and source some quotes for a BBQ trailer?
If you are able to help out, please email the P&F via pfmarysmount@gmail.com with your details.
Thank You!!
PS. The pic included is one example of a style. There are a number of styles of BBQ trailers.

Playgroup is a great opportunity for Mums, Dads, Carers and Grandparents with bubs and toddlers (0 to 4 years old) to get together for a cuppa, chat and some fun.
New families are welcome to join at anytime during the year, and you don’t have to be an enrolled family of Mary’s Mount Primary School to join The Cottage Playgroup – everyone is welcome.
Please feel free to come along on a Monday morning, say hello and check out our The Cottage Playgroup. No need to pre-book. Just show up.

FROM LITTLE THINGS, BIG THINGS GROW!
Last week our littlest 3 Year Old Kindy children joined with our excited Pre-Primary students to set up their very own Early Childhood Area worm farm and compost bin.
Mr Coniglio got his hands dirty to help settle in our new composting worm friends to the junior part of our school. The children loved spending their play time preparing the soil in their garden beds ready for planting their first crop of veggies and herbs next week.
