Simile: using like or as, comparing 2 things
Dumb as a dog he listened, and heard the robber say... Comparing the man to a dog.
Metaphor: States 2 things that are same or equal, does not use like or as.
The wind was a torrent of darkness, among the gusty trees. Comparing the wind to the darkness.
Personification: Human quantities to an object or animal.
There was death at every window. Saying that there was danger by the window.
Similie:
His eyes were hollows of madness, his hair like moldy hay. Comparing hair to hay.
Metaphor:
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon the cloudy seas. Comparing the moon to a ghostly galleon.
Personification:
With the white road, smoking behind him. Saying that the road is smoking.
