HORNET SINGERS:
Hornet Singers...though they be but few, they be mighty!
It's been great getting to know these students voices as we navigate the world of choral singing. We've been busy building our sight-reading skills and applying our "do, re, mi's" to our concert repertoire.
We've also been busy training our ears to singing in an ensemble setting instead of as a soloist or just with a friend. Listening is music is a key skill that can really bring a choir together. They are making strides!
Choir polos are available for purchase and payment may be brought to Miss Lehman anytime before Oct. 21. Cash and check are both acceptable methods of payment with the check made out to "Fulton Middle School (FMS) Choirs". The cost is $13 for sizes S-L and $15 for XLarge and up. ALL students will need a choir polo to go along with their student provided khaki pants and black closed-toe shoes. Please make sure you are getting these items asap so there isn't a last minute stress placed on you or the child when concert time arrives (Oct. 24).
The choir handbook and schedule is online for your perusal anytime. (www.fulton58.org)
HARMONY HORNETS:
We had yet another great rehearsal last Tuesday and we are SO EXCITED to meet once again this Tuesday! Our amazing group is made up of a mixture of 6th-8th grade (7th/8th band or guitar members) and has great energy and interest in making great music. Rehearsals are every Tuesday from 3:20 - 4:15 in the FMS choir room (G07).
If you ever have any questions, concerns, or comments, feel free to contact me at llehman@fulton58.org.

We have now started working on all 3 songs for our upcoming concert! We can't wait to share this music at our concert on Monday, October 24th! Please plan to join us at First Baptist Church!
PLEASE REMEMBER that choir members MUST be in uniform at ALL of our performances this year. You may purchase the required polo shirt by bring $13 ($15 for XL) to Dr. Moebes. You will receive a receipt for your payment.
ARTS ALIVE:
6th grade Arts Alive students have worked so hard to develop rhythm skills, and to practice reading music notation.
BATTLE OF THE BANDS: CUPS EDITION is this week! We have 3 separate band competing. Each group is working really hard to put the finishing touches on their compositions, so they can do their very best in the upcoming competition! Great work, 6th graders! Let's finish strong!

Students are discovering the natural beauty of this history-rich country, and discussing the current political climate. Coming up: students will have the opportunity to choose a project to focus on another country of Asia!
Careers
We are very fortunate to have had special guest, Ms. Andrea Fansler in our class on Thursday! She is a specialist in Health Related Occupations. Thank you so much to each of the presenters who have visited us! Our last two visitors for the term will be Sgt. Matthew Moebes (Army), and Ms. Jeanna Powers (Mental Health/Counselling Occupations.)
Career Exploration has been working hard on their final projects! Students have each chosen two projects to "Show what they know!"
We will be traveling to FEC on Tuesday, October 18th to share the children's books that several of the Careers students have written. We are excited to share our hard work with such an amazing group of students!
Please ask your student about the way they are going to choose to "show what they know". Students have received the guidelines for their capstone project. They get to choose from a variety of ways to share what they are learning!

Mr. Jackson
Always Something New.
I don't know if everyone is like me or not, but I tend to reread books pretty regularly (especially if they are one of my favorites). Despite how many times I've read something, I almost always come across something that is new when paying attention to the text I'm reading. Our goal at FMS library is to encourage your student to not only see the text they have read come alive again, but to experience new things.
Every month I receive an order of new books, and have an on-going list of books and resources that I add to and order to enhance the experience for the students. There is literally something for everyone that is either currently available or coming soon!
Encourage your student to stretch their mind, and abilities by either enhancing their current skills or adding new ones. I love the Thomas Huxley quote: "Try to learn something about everything and everything about something."
Help us as we try and help bring your student to the "Next Level Hornets".
Feel free to contact me at jjackson@fulton58.org with any questions or concerns.
