Dear PHS Families,
Progress Reports for the 2nd Quarter Period were mailed home today, and they are also available in SchoolTool. Please take some time to review your student’s progress and develop a plan for success. Please contact your child’s teacher or the guidance office if you have any questions.
Mark your calendar! The PHS Winter Music Concert will be held next Tuesday, December 17th at 7:30 pm in the auditorium. Please join us for this special event.
Potsdam Central Schools will be closed for the Holiday Break from Monday, December 23rd, through Friday, January 3rd. Classes will resume on Monday, January 6th, 2020 (Day 1).
Any 10th grade student who is interested in attending a St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES Seaway Career & Technical Center Program next year needs to submit a completed enrollment application to the PHS Guidance Office no later than January 17th, 2020. Applications are available in the Guidance Office or you may download a copy using the button below. Please contact Mr. Dinan, sophomore counselor, with any questions.
Congratulations to the PHS Whiz Quiz Team! Ethan Plague, Syl Foisy, Skye Crocker, and Yacob Melman won the Championship Whiz Quiz match against South Jefferson Central with a score of 425 to 330. They won a trophy and scholarship money that will be presented in January at a WPBS banquet in Watertown. Well done!
The Project Challenge program at Clarkson University provides Saturday morning enrichment courses to North Country high school students in grades 9 - 12 during the months of January and February. Classes run from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon on January 11, January 18, January 25, February 1, and February 8 (snow date of February 15). The cost is $145. Students can get a registration form in the Guidance Office or online at https://www.clarkson.edu/project-challenge. The St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES is offering the SAT/ACT Workshop to high school juniors who plan to take the SAT and/or ACT this spring. Classes will be at the SLL BOCES Educational Services Center, 40 W. Main St., on seven Saturdays or Sundays starting February 29th or March 1st. Classes are 2 1/2 hours. Registration materials are available at the guidance office and online at https://satactworkshop.weebly.com/. Students must register through their guidance counselors before February 6th. Our district participates in this BOCES service; therefore, it is FREE for Potsdam High School juniors.
Clarkson University Professor Jim Peploski will present the popular “Dr. Jim’s Chemistry Magic Show,” to the community on Saturday, December 14th, from 3:00-4:00 pm in Room 360 of Clarkson’s Science Center. The show, targeted to children and great fun for all ages, will benefit the Potsdam Holiday Fund. Each family or individual attending is asked to bring one new, unwrapped toy or gift to donate to the fund, which provides new toys, clothing, boots and food to families and senior citizens in need in Potsdam, Madrid, Hopkinton, Nicholville, Brasher Falls, Chase Mills, Fort Jackson, West Stockholm, and Winthrop. Monetary contributions are also welcome in lieu of a purchased gift.
The After Prom Committee is sponsoring a Vendor and Craft Show at Lawrence Avenue Elementary School on December 14th from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm ($2.00 donation). This year's event is hosting over 70 vendors and crafters, children games, raffles, and a concession. Santa is even making a guest appearance.

Can't make it to the game? All Potsdam Modified, JV, and Varsity athletic contests scheduled for the turf field or the high school gym are available through live video stream or video on demand on the NFHS Network. A subscription is required to watch the live stream or the VOD can be viewed for free a short time after the conclusion of the contest. Please contact Mr. Wilson (mwilson@potsdam.k12.ny.us) in the Athletics Office with any questions.
The PHS Library is open Monday through Thursday each week from 2:15 to 4:00 pm for any students to get extra help on homework, to work on a group project, or just to take advantage of a quiet space.
