KCS AVID Student of Month
Our KCS AVID Student of the Month is a 7th grader from Bearden Middle. Her name is Neisha Pascal. She is being recognized for her efforts in supporting her peers in their academic struggles. She always has a positive outlook on things and tries to reinforce that with her peers whenever she can. For these reasons and for her motivation with her own academics, Neisha is our KCS AVID Student of the Month.
KCS AVID Professional Development Day 1
On November 2, KCS AVID had the pleasure of bringing together over 35 staff members from our 6 AVID schools to learn more about AVID schoolwide and the strategies used within AVID implementation. Overall the day was filled with learning to support all students in our AVID schools. The next KCS AVID Professional Development Day is February 1.
KCS AVID College and Career Fair at Karns High School
Our first KCS AVID College and Career Fair was held at Karns High School on November 13. All 6 AVID schools were represented to talk with families about their programs. We had approximately 16 businesses or colleges on hand to talk to families as well. Students in attendances were tasked with a scavenger hunt that required them to talk to all participants utilizing their soft skills in order to prepare them for the professional world. Overall it was a great evening for our schools and the families that attended. We hope to replicate the night again in the Spring.
8th grade AVID ACT Experience Day
Our 3rd annual ACT Experience Day for all 8th grade AVID students was held at Austin East High School on November 14. AVID 8th graders were given a shorten version of the ACT in an authentic setting, a tour of the school to see some high school classes, and then listened to a presentation on what their scores mean and how they parlay into their high school experience. Austin East Junior and Senior AVID students were there to provide insight into their high school experience, ACT testing, and college application process. The day ended with a Senior AVID student panel to answer questions posed by the group. It is a great learning experience for all and a way to support 8th grade AVID students as they begin to prepare for high school next year.

Other important information
-Visits will continue through the end of November to support tutorials and continue to coach tutors. There are no visits scheduled in December. If a school needs some support, Michelle Staal will be willing to come out when needed.
-Coordinators will be working on certification evidence at the coordinator's meeting on November 26. As decided by the AVID team, the submission date for the "KCS Must Haves" is December 17. An initial check of these items expedites any changes that needs to be done in May before submitting to AVID.
