Travel During COVID
Updated March 22, 2021
Guidelines
We want everyone to be safe and healthy. Anytime a family travels to visit family, go on vacation, or for other activities, there is always a chance of becoming infected with COVID.
Washington State has updated their guidance and asked all Washington residents to follow the CDC guidance found here!
Skagit County is currently in Phase 3. You can find recommendations, restrictions, and allowable activities here.
If you travel or have contact with others outside of your household that is not allowed during Phase 3, we would ask for you to keep your student(s) home the week following the activity. This will prevent a possible outbreak where we have to quarantine cohorts, grade levels, or buildings. All guidelines for Phases in Washington are found here. If Phase 3 guidelines are not posted, we are required to continue to follow Phase 2 guidelines.
If you are unsure if you should keep them home, please contact Mr. Cravy and explain the circumstances, where you are traveling, whom you are visiting, venues or activities planned, so we can talk about your options.
See below for general guidelines on quarantine
If anyone in the household has symptoms or if you have been around someone that has tested positive you should contact the health department for guidance and contact the school. More information on health department requirements for exposure to COVID can be found here: https://www.smore.com/3gh5j-returning-to-campus-in-january
We can administer COVID tests for students that have symptoms. Contact Austin in the school office for more information on testing. 360-445-5785
General Quarantine Rules:
The following are the general rules from the CDC and Washington State Dept. of Health if you have been in contact with someone that has tested positive for COVID or is suspected of having COVID.
Exposure/Potential Exposure to COVID - 14 Days as a general rule from the last contact.
Anyone that has been vaccinated, does not have to quarantine if their exposure is 14+ days after their last (Pfizer, Moderna) or only (Johnson and Johnson) COVID shot.
In certain circumstances it can be reduced.
This is a case by case reviewed by the school under the health department's guidance.
Exposure/Potential Exposure to COVID - 10 Days without symptoms (continue to monitor through day 14)
Exposure/Potential Exposure to COVID - 7 Days without symptoms and a negative test on or after day 5 of quarantine (continue to monitor through day 14)
What if we get tested?
The first test has to be administered 5-6 days after exposure before it can detect COVID. With the incubation period ending at day 14, even a negative test on day 6 doesn't mean your are COVID free
The second test (Rapid Antigen) is the test the school is currently using. It will only detect COVID if the person has symptoms. Therefore we do not test anyone that does not have active symptoms.
If you travel somewhere and are tested for COVID right after you return, we cannot consider those tests when determining if your student(s) can return to school. The test would need to be on day 5 or 6 after your return or date of last contact. Which will vary depending on how you travel and who you have contact with on the trip home.
