Principal's Corner
We are on the homestretch! At the time you receive this, we will have just 18 school days left of the 20-21 school year. I am so grateful to our district, our community, our staff, our students, and our Roadrunner families for making in-person learning a reality this year. Earlier this spring, I was out of state visiting family, and people were shocked to learn that in Sioux Falls we have been engaging in in-person learning the entire school year. People I visited with expressed how much they wished they could say the same as their community truly was needing their schools to be open. We have all learned and witnessed firsthand the important role our schools play in the health, growth, and well-being of students, and our community as a whole. Thank you to each of you for doing your part to help us all be at school, together!
I also want to express my deep thankfulness for our staff who did not let hurdles become barricades when it came to providing our students with immense opportunities to learn and grow this year. Our teachers worked especially hard, learning how to provide students access to their learning both in person and virtually, SIMULTANEOUSLY. Teachers also took on more duties to provide students with sanitary materials and workspaces, and to provide additional supervision each and every morning. Our custodians carried out their normal responsibilities while also remaining incredibly flexible so they could drop what they were doing to ensure that an area identified as possibly having a positive COVID case was expertly sanitized to keep everyone safe and healthy. Our amazingly hard-working clerical took on the additional role of helping families understand COVID guidelines, explaining with compassion and care how to navigate the changing guidelines and requirements. Our cafeteria servers and supervisors put in significant extra effort to ensure students had a healthy place to enjoy their meals. Our support staff was quick to jump in and help in so many ways which made the bumps we hit much less bumpy. Our specialists continued their services to our students as if nothing had changed; this takes great effort. Our school nurse became an expert on educating families about return dates and quarantining practices. Our PTO didn't let COVID keep staff from feeling loved and appreciated. It was a year of everyone pulling together and going above and beyond to make amazing things happen for our students. THANK YOU TO YOU ALL!
Let's get ready to end the year stronger than ever!
Kindest regards,
Mrs. Gillette

ON TO NEW ADVENTURES
Mr. Erickson
Favorite part of being a Roadrunner: Students and staff, of course!
What he will be doing in his next adventure and what he is most excited about: Teaching Fellowship with National Education Association researching adult learning theory on best professional development practices.
Mrs. Munsch
Favorite part of being a Roadrunner: I love all the amazing relationships I’ve built with staff and students.
What she will be doing in his next adventure and what she is most excited about: I am going to be a fourth grade teacher at Fred Assam Elementary in the Brandon Valley School District. I am most excited to be only a few minutes from home and on the same schedule as my three boys.
Miss Stroh
Favorite part of being a Roadrunner: My favorite part of being a Roadrunner is how both the staff and the students come to school each day to work hard and do their best. I am so proud of the students in my classroom for how hard they work each and every day-even when I challenge them. They have such great attitudes when they do hard things. The cool part is, that this isn't just in my classroom but I see it in teachers and classrooms across the building! I love being part of a group of people who always show up and do their best, no matter what the challenge is!
What she will be doing in his next adventure and what she is most excited about: I will be getting married and moving to Wisconsin. I've been pretty busy finishing my first year of teaching and planning a wedding, so I'm not entirely sure what my next adventure is in terms of a career, but I am very excited to see what's next! I am most excited to get married and move to a new place as I have never moved before!
Mrs. Smith
Role in Roadrunner Land: Instructional Coach
What she will be doing in her next adventure and what she is most excited about: My next adventure includes being a fulltime instructional coach in one building. While it is very difficult to leave the wonderful learning community at Roadrunner Land, I am over the moon to be a part of one community and culture where my time, effort, and energy is fully focused. Simply being present every day in one building will allow me to deepen relationships with students and staff to positively impact student learning.
Thank you for filling me with immense joy over these last four years, accepting me and welcoming me as a Roadrunner. Until we meet again...
Mrs. Brodersen
Her favorite part of being a Roadrunner: I love working at RF/CC: My coworkers are fun, creative, innovative people. It was fun to be part of such an awesome team of teachers. I will miss being around my coworkers and students each day. Fifth grade is a wonderful year in the life of young people. It’s fun to help them prepare for middle school and be there to celebrate their elementary careers.
What she will be doing in her next adventure and what she is most excited about: I will be staying home with my four year old daughter and 1 1/2 year old son. It’s a dream I’ve had since our daughter was born, and I am so excited to have this opportunity.

Library Cards
Reading is the most important skill you can teach a child. Of all the skills children learn, it is the one you can influence the most. Giving kids access to good books and the opportunity to choose books will motivate them to read more. Like most acquired skills, the more kids practice reading, the better they’ll get.
Siouxland Public Libraries would like to help you with getting good books into the hands of your children! Click here to get more information on how to get a library card for your child(ren) and/or families!
