Glycolysis
Glucose + NAD + 2ATP = 2 pyruvate + NADH + 4 ATP
The most important biological process
The process of glycolysis is an oxidation reaction which means that it is energetically favorable.
This process takes place in the cytosol of the cell.
The Net yield of this process is 2 ATP's and 2 NADH's
Glycolysis: An Overview
Why it is Important
This process is used to break down the glucose (food) we put into our body and convert it into usable energy so we can do things that we love, like SCIENCE!!!
The two products of pyruvate go onto the kreb;s cycle and then onto the electron transport chain to obtain the maximum amount of ATP's (38) per glucose cell.
This is used to provide energy to the rest of the body's biological process.
