This Week in Kindergarten

Winter Break
We hope that everyone has a relaxing winter break. Over the break, please remember to read and write each day! Under the "What can we work on at home?" section of the newsletter are suggestions for skills to target during the break. We look forward to seeing everyone in January!
What are we learning in Kindergarten this week?
Math: In math we will introduce the concept of addition and adding two quantities.
What can we work on at home?
-Identifying numbers 1-10
-Counting 1-50, counting by 5's, counting by 10's
-Writing Numbers 1-20
Language Arts/ Social Studies: In writer's workshop, we will focus on writing our upper and lowercase letters correctly to make our writing easy to read. We will also be using resources such as word walls and resource binders to help us with our writing. A focus in writing this week will be writing a first draft. In Reader's Workshop we will be exploring text to text, text to self, and text to world connections.
What can we work on at home?
-Review letter names and sounds for all letters of the alphabet.
-Writing first name correctly on lined paper with only the first letter capitalized
-Correctly identifying and writing letters
-Stretching out sounds to write simple words
-Reading and writing sight words
-Writing sentences that start with a capital letter and end with punctuation.
Science: In science, we will observe and describe the way objects can move.
