EHS TEACHER SELECTED FOR WORLD WAR I PROGRAM
Elizabeth HIgh School Teacher Manser Kierstead is one of 114 teachers selected for a National History Day® program titled Legacies of World War I. The program is a partnership between the U.S. World War I Centennial Commission and National History Day.
Mr. Kierstead will participate in webinars and discussions while learning about World War I with teachers from around the world.
Each of the 57 National History Day affiliates could choose two teachers for this honor and the National History Day program in Colorado selected Mr. Kierstead.
Board of Education approves ballot question
The Elizabeth School District Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution in late August that places a $1.59 million mill levy override (MLO) question on the November 2018 ballot (ballot issue 4A) that won't increase taxes.
The MLO will be used to:
- attract and retain teachers and support staff by offering compensation that is competitive with surrounding school districts;
- expand safety and security measures through equipment, training, and preparedness, including but not limited to the addition of a school resource officer and social-emotional support for students;
- Provide all students with additional access to technology that facilitates learning and post-graduate success.
Legacy Academy will receive a portion of the revenue raised based on student count, as legally required. The MLO will replace the district’s expiring tax for bonded debt with general fund revenue.
Factual information about school district funding and the mill levy override can be found on the 2018 Funding Initiatives pages on the district website.
Elizabeth Schools acquires 10 new buses
Elizabeth Schools' 10 new school buses are rolling out this month. The new buses replace buses that have exceeded their useful lives and have become costly and burdensome to maintain.
This spring, the Board of Education approved a tax-exempt, lease-purchase agreement for the district to acquire nine new 71-passenger diesel school buses and one special needs bus. Financing the bus purchase instead of spending down reserves gives the district fiscal flexibility to address unforeseen costly future events.
