What's New This Week?

Language Arts

This week we begin Journeys Lesson 5 in Language Arts. Our Essential Question this week is "What clues tell you where and when a story takes place?" Our new story is titled Teacher's Pets and concepts we will focus on are consonant blends with r, l, s, base words and endings -ed, -ing, and story structure. In writing we will learn about singular and plural nouns, and Writing to Narrate a True Story.

Our spelling focus this week is words with consonant blends r, l, s. Word lists can be found on our classroom website along with a this link to Spelling City: https://www.spellingcity.com/cpollack1018/

This website is a great resource for your child with fun spelling games and practice tests using their word list.


ENVISIONS MATH - This week we will continue to work on Topic 4: Place Value: Numbers to 100. During this topic students will be learning the different models for ones and tens, how to use symbols to compare numbers, ordering numbers, number patterns, even and odd numbers, and how to use data from a chart.

FIRST IN MATH - Keep up with the great work on the First in Math website. This is a wonderful activity to help strengthen your child's math skills on different levels. On Monday our new "Player of the Week" will be announced!

Halloween Events

On Monday, October 31st, first and second grade will walk over to Twining Village at 1:45 to sing for the residents at 2:00. Upon our return, we will join the RHE Halloween Parade at 2:30. Any and all parents are welcome to walk with us to Twining Village and listen to some wonderful singing of Halloween songs. Please return permission forms asap if you have not already done so. Thank you!

RHE Home & School Association News

Family Bingo Night - Rolling Hills Family Bingo Night is back! Save the date, Bingo Night is Friday, November 4th. Tickets will go on sale through the online RH School Store on Friday, October 14th along with event details. This year we will be introducing an additional New round of Bingo for a very special prize! Stay tuned for more details.

Rolling Hills Family Day at Disney on Ice will be on December 29th at 11am. This year Disney on Ice is presenting "Follow Your Heart". Our Club Box tickets will be on sale for our Rolling Hills Families & their extended family/ friends at our reduced rate starting 10/24! They are first come first serve and orders are due by 11/17. Giant A+ - Last year we made approximately $1000 from the Giant A+ program. If you were registered last year, you do not need to sign up again! If you have not yet registered, please do so here.

Box Tops For Education

Please send in any Boxtop For Education labels. This is a quick and easy fundraiser that makes money for our school. Each month the classroom with the most labels has a choice of either a gym class with Mr. Smith or a pajama day!
