What is a Connected Learning Camp?
Connected Learning Camps are special-topics courses in innovative educational practices that are designed and taught by leading practitioners in the field. Participants earn one graduate course credit, which counts towards ACT 48 credits in PA.
OR Take three in a row for three credits (the equivalent of a full college course). Check out the offerings for Summer 2016 below:
Coding For Educators
Some have predicted that within the next ten years, coding will be taught alongside reading and writing as a the new digital language. In this camp, teachers will learn the basics of how coding works, tools to teach coding, and how to integrate coding activities in your discipline and grade level.

Community Project-Based Learning
Description: How can sites of learning act as a pathway to community coalitions of academic, civic, and career opportunity? During this course, participants will survey, evaluate, and synthesize sites of learning across the Philadelphia community (museums, community organizations, cultural institutions, digital resources, etc.) to construct portfolios of resources and community relationships that can be used in inquiry-based learning experiences. Expect to take a few field trips across the city in this Camp!

Service Learning and Engagement in an Authentic Curriculum
In this camp, participants have the privilege of working with Lisa Hantman, a skilled teacher with over 30 years of experience in designing service learning experiences for her students. Attendees will learn how to incorporate meaningful service-learning activities into their curriculum. Also, camp-goers will learn more about Need In Deed, an organization that fosters networking and support for educators who incorporate service-learning into their teaching.

Digital Storytelling with WHYY and Arcadia University
Instructor: Craig Santoro, Director of Educational Programs at WHYY
This fifteen-hour course guides teachers, pre-service teachers, and other educators through the basics of video production in the classroom. Educators will learn project-based techniques that teach 21st-Century skills through student media production. Participants will be guided through a series of media projects, including an audio slideshow, a short documentaries, and a narrative scene. The format of the course closely mirrors the hands-on environment teachers would create in their classrooms.
This is a hands-on course, in which teachers will be recording and editing media.
