PBIS Info
Wolf Paws - Cut them in half and use both sides. You can also use Sub Paws as we won't do that program any more (we will just use those coupons as part of the trimester drawings now).
Business donations - I have a letter ready to go out to Waseca businesses asking for donations for our trimester drawings. If you know of someone in Waseca that would want to donate, let me know and I'll give you a letter to give to them!
CARES Assembly
Our first assembly will be on September 27 at 8:30 AM. We are hoping to be done by 9:00 at the latest. Try to get your kids pumped up about it! I will get a spreadsheet out to teachers next week so you can count up your wolf paws before the assembly that day.
September Reminders
Forms, forms, and more forms!!!
Please turn in all your packets and any other forms to me and I'll get them sorted out! I have a basket on my desk.
Early Out - September 25
Start reminding families of our upcoming early out day. We dismiss at 1:15 PM. New - paras can leave when students leave on early out days. Teachers will now meet in PLCs from 1:30-3:15 PM.
Funfest
I'll announce when Funfest begins and ends over the intercom. Posters will be hung up around school this week so students know which rooms they can choose. Remember to have kids ready to go before Funfest starts!
Announcements
If you are not getting the announcements let me know! I'll have staff record them for the first month and then we will have 5th grade start doing them after that!
Homecoming Parade
The parade will start at 2:00 on September 27. We will start walking at 1:45 and sit anywhere on the side street by Family Video.
September 30 In-Service
I'm working on the schedule and should get it out to everyone by the end of the week! After watching the documentary, Love Them First: Lessons From Lucy Laney, I want to show it to you at our In-service day! So if you haven't watched it, you will get to on September 30!
If there is anything else you would really like to discuss or learn more about, let me know and we can try to fit it in on the 30th or one of our other in-service days.

Muscle Memory and Building Stamina
Lori Sabo
Issue #583
I am of the typewriter generation. I have vivid memories of mentally commanding my eyes to focus ahead while trying to accurately comply with the teacher’s sleepy, monotone, rhythmic commands to type individual letters and punctuation marks. Progress was made in increments, and I can still type accurately without looking at my fingers as a result of the hours of practice.
A wrench was thrown into my accuracy and speed when I discovered that putting two spaces after a period is no longer considered correct. The person who shared this with me went so far as to say, “It’s an old-fashioned typewriter thing to do and completely unnecessary in our electronic, word-processing age.” Thanks, younger generation.
It was amazing how hard it was to make this tiny shift. Putting two spaces after a period was so deeply ingrained in my muscle memory that it was quite daunting to form a new habit. I finally did it, but it was a hard-won victory.
The point? We are working in our classrooms to build stamina and behaviors of independence. We must support, guide, model, and build in the increments that allow students to be successful. If we are unwavering in our commitment, our students will build strong muscle memory for reading to self that will be with them for life. And that is a habit and skill that will never be out of date.
