9th Grade Registration

Current Freshman will register this week, March 21st-28th. They will meet in Mrs. Brazzell's computer lab (S223). Don't forget to bring a pencil!

Cadets had a busy two days in Montgomery. They toured part of Maxwell AFB and attended the State JROTC Spring Leadership Conference this past weekend! Charles Payton kept the HGHS state leadership role alive as he was selected as the 2016-2017 State CTSO Vice-President. As always, the fifteen cadets who attended brought great credit to HG and the community.

Advanced Theatre

Auditions for Advanced Theatre classes will be held Wednesday and Thursday of this week after school. See the sign-up list on the inner door of the Blackbox Theatre to sign up for a time.

A Super Groovy Night's Dream

What if Shakespeare was writing in the age of hippies, jocks, and geeks? The Theatre II/III class proudly presents A Super Groovy Night's Dream this Thursday evening at 6:30 PM. The cost is $5 at the door.

Cap & Gowns Pictures

It's not too late to order Cap and Gown pictures! Bill Miller has extended the deadline until this Friday, March 25th!

Last Day for Prom Tickets

The last day to buy a prom ticket is Tuesday, tomorrow. Tickets are now a $100.00 each. Please see Mrs. Bell or Dean to purchase a ticket. Tickets will not be sold after the deadline.

Baby Photos for Prom

Seniors who are attending Prom may submit a baby and Senior photo for the Prom slideshow. Digital photos should be submitted to Mrs. Henderson by Friday, March 25th, to The subject line of the email should read "Prom Slideshow" and include the student's first and last name.

The Memory Test

The human memory is a complex process that is essential to whom we are. Mrs. Duggan puts her students to the test to see how much they can remember off hand about inanimate objects and their location around the school. The more you know about your memory, the better you'll understand how you can improve it!

Senior Follies T-shirt

If you ordered a senior follies shirt, you may pick it up in the library. It's not too late to get a Senior Follies shirt. The cost is $10.00. Custom sizes are $12.00. Orders will not be accepted after March 30th. You can pay online at MySchoolFees or Mrs. Weir.

Today's Sporting Events

Congratulations to Kira Lewis, Brooke Hampel, and Caitlin Hose on making the ASWA All-State Team in basketball!

The Varsity Baseball team over break finished two and two, beating Gulf Shores 8 to 3. Junior Varsity Baseball also had a great finish. They went 3 and 1, with a two run-rule shutouts. Great progress for the HG Baseball teams.

The Lady Trojans played an amazing tournament over the break! They beat Mooreville and Hillcrest. They fell to James Clemens 4-2 during an international tie breaker. It was a real close one!

The Golf team also teed it up this weekend in the in tournaments in Birmingham and Georgia. They had a great time!

UWA College Night

The University of West Alabama would like to formally invite to attend UWA College Night. This event will take place at the Spring Hill Suits in Huntsville, Alabama at 6:30 PM on Thursday, March 24th. You will learn more about admissions, financial aid, scholarships, housing, and the wide array of majors and degree programs that UWA has to offer. Greg Ray Memorial Education Scholarship

This is a one-time $2,000 education scholarship award made to a deserving senior, public, high school student in the state of Alabama. The scholarship award is made to the post-secondary school selected by the awarded student and to the student. The application form must be completed and received by April 29th. Please see the attachment for more details.

2016 Miranda Bouldin STEM Scholarship Essay Contest

Inspire and Achieve is proud to present to you the 2016 Miranda Bouldin STEM Scholarship Essay Contest Topics and your chance to win a $1500 scholarship and a laptop computer! Your essays will be evaluated based on the thesis, organization, support and development of ideas, insight into the subject, and clarity, style, and mechanics of the paper. At least, ten essays will be selected for award. Winners will be announced no later than May 05th. Each award winner and his guests will be invited to attend an award recipient reception at the LogiCore Corporate Headquarters to receive their award plaque and a laptop computer!

University of South Alabama Freshman Scholarship

USA offers exceptional scholarship opportunities for incoming students. These scholarships are available for students who will be joining the school in the fall. To be eligible to apply students must have a composite ACT score of 24 or higher. The scholarship amounts range from $500 - $2,500. Enclosed is a flyer with information about the scholarships.

Revision to Pre-Approved Absence Policy- Students requesting pre-approved, excused absences will need to turn the form into Mrs. Sharp at least 20 days before the planned absence. Forms can be found on the school website.

Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend
- Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.

1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of the school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.

2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.

3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.

First Priority/FCS
meets every Tuesday morning at 8:00 in the Black Box Theatre. All students are welcome to attend.

Going green at “the Green”. The Hazel Green High School Special Education Department needs your old cell phones and ink cartridges. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.

Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your reward cards when you visit Publix and Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you have them swipe your card, HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a reward card, just stop by the main office to pick one up.

Driver’s permit:
Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.
