Principal's Message

Dear Field Families,

Hello everyone! It has been a busy week so I apologize for a late message.

The location for our Winter Assembly has changed. It will be held at PazNaz, next door to the school. The assembly is scheduled for December 18 at 9:00 am. Our instrumental music classes will perform first. We will be recording the assembly and parents will have the opportunity to purchase a recording through our PTA.

Please help me welcome two new staff members to our Field family. Ms. Wei Ling Xue is our new instructional aide and she will start this week. Ms. Kiri Lahey, our new Library Coordinator, will start in January. Both of these positions are funded through our Annual Fund.

Please remember that we will have early dismissal, 12:50 pm, on Friday, Dec. 18. Our Winter Break will run from Dec. 21 to Jan. 1.

We will be open for parking for the Rose Parade Float Viewing on January 1 - 3, 2016. This is our annual 5th grade fundraising event and so if you are planning to check out the floats, please consider parking with us!

Our LEARNS Student Leadership Team is currently collecting unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots. If you can donate a toy, please place it in the collection box in the office. The US Marines are planning to pick up our donations next Tuesday.

Have a wonderful week.

Thank you,
Ria Apodaca

Expanded Transitional Kindergarten

Children who turn five between Dec. 5, 2015, and June 2, 2016, can attend full-day expanded transitional kindergarten starting Jan. 5, 2016, as the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) extends its early education program. PUSD’s thriving Transitional kindergarten is a full-day developmentally appropriate program that bridges the gap between preschool and kindergarten for children born in the fall. Until now, Transitional kindergarten had been limited to children with fall birthdays, between Sept. 3 and Dec. 2.

Families are invited to register their children for Expanded Transitional kindergarten at the PUSD Office of Enrollment, Permits & Student Records (located at 351 S. Hudson Ave., Room 210, Pasadena) to coordinate placement on the following dates and times:

  • Tuesday - Thursday, Dec. 8 - 10, 2015 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

  • Tuesday - Thursday, Dec. 15 - 17, 2015 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Transitional kindergarten is currently offered at seven PUSD campuses. Placement is based on residence.

  • Jefferson Elementary

  • Longfellow Elementary

  • Madison Elementary

  • McKinley School

  • Norma Coombs Elementary School

  • Washington Elementary STEM Magnet School

  • Willard Elementary School
