The Reason for the Season
We owe a huge "Thank you" to many different organizations on campus for stepping up to the plate and taking amazing care of our VVISD families.
- Coach Hanson and her softball and Cross Country teams for spent the past few weeks gather gifts to give to families in need of a little extra support this Christmas season. Coach Hanson has been taking care of our community in this way for over 13 years and we are so thankful that she shares this special lesson with her athletes.
- Additionally, Coach Cadle and his baseball players made to sure to take care of our community members in the same regard. We are thankful for the leadership of our coaches and teaching beyond the fundamentals of the game.
- STUCO and NHS made sure to be a big help also with not only getting gifts but in helping deliver and set them up at the admin office.
We also have several community members and organizations we would like to thank:
JSL, Shop with a Cop, Lynn Group, FUMC, Run-N-Gun Lodge, The Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, VV Little League and FUMC VV.

WITI- Women in Touch Initiative
Students from Van Vleck High school were chosen to represent VVISD as new members of WITI or Women in Touch Initiative. WITI is a collective initiative to gather female perspectives and empower women to recognize their potential. Grace, Ava, and Tia were personally invited to a luncheon with Superintendent Dement, where they heard from STP CEO, Ms. Kym Harshaw.
Ava shared a little bit more about the experience:
"It was an experience to remember! There were so many powerful, successful ladies who had such bright spirits. A woman CEO at STP spoke to us while we ate. She explained her story of how she got to where she is now. She’s moved from state to state, following amazing job opportunities then landed into South Texas. She is 1 in 3 of women in the entire United States to work in the job position she is in. Her story showed me that the pathway of life is not a straight line. It has obstacles and the way to overcome these road blocks is to work hard. I am so thankful for the opportunity and hope to experience more."
Youth Leadership- Matagorda County
4 students were chosen to represent Van Vleck High School as members of Youth Leadership Matagorda County. Cadence, Tia, Tatum, and Jahrius attended their first event this past week where they toured the STP Joint Information Center and their Emergency Operations Facility. They observed an STP Emergency drill and then were treated to lunch while hearing from the Matagorda County Emergency Management Coordinator, Amanda Campos. They then toured the Matagorda County Courthouse for a tour of the building.
