Torrey Hill Intermediate School
Newsletter for January 2022
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Hello Torrey Hill Families!
Welcome to the start of the second semester and Happy 2022! I have a few updates for you below.
NWEA- Mid Year Reports
Soon you will be receiving our mid-year individualized NWEA Family and School reports. We are sending these home in hard-copy format and they will be given to the students this Friday.
Report Cards No Longer Via Paper Copy- Accessible Via ParentVue
We have amazing technology within Lake Fenton Community Schools. One tool many of you are familiar with is our ParentVue system, sometimes referred to as Synergy. Your student's report card information can now be obtained within ParentVue under the "Report Card" section. You will need to login to ParentVue to access 2nd MP and First Semester grades. Updated report card information will be available by the end of the day this Friday, 01/21/22. You will also have the option to print a .pdf of your student's report card if you'd like a hard copy. This is the same process our Middle School and High School families use to access their student's report cards. Please do not hesitate to contact our school if you would like further assistance. Please see directions below the principal's note.
COVID ToolKit Guidelines Including Updates On New Lunch Locations
The guidelines for covid-19 have changed. Again, thank you for your patience. One change worth noting is that positive students are able to return to school, if symptoms are improving, after 5 days. The school nurse will assist in determining those exact dates.
Positive students, who return after five days, are required to eat lunch (days 6-10) in an area where they have a guaranteed six-feet of social distancing from others and not in the cafeteria. Currently, we are using our library as the primary location. This information (page 5) and much more can be found in the updated GCHD Toolkit that was sent out in the recent past. See link below.

Food Service Updates
The food service department is happy to be able to provide all meals to all students for free this year! This is a government grant that allows us to do that. Along with the grant money there are guidelines we must follow. This grant allows for only one complete breakfast and lunch per student per school day.
A breakfast includes: 2 Grains or 1 grain and one protein item, 1 cup fruit/vegetable and Milk. To be a complete meal 3 out of the 4 items must be taken and one of the items must be a fruit or vegetable.
School Lunch is made up of 5 food groups. These groups are whole grain, protein foods, vegetables, fruit and milk. To be a complete meal, three out of five food groups must be taken and one must be a fruit or a vegetable.
Only one entrée is allowed for both meals. Students may purchase additional entrees or meal components at ala carte pricing.
Any questions please feel free to contact the Food Service office at 810-591-9449 or email at lgrant@lakefentonschools.org.

HELP WANTED! Academic Interventionists, Aides and Recess/Lunch Aides
We are also in need of Academic Interventionists, as well.
Please visit the link above for access to openings in ALL buildings. If you have questions about any of our job postings, please contact the building principal, Mrs. Conover.
Important Message- Reading and/or Math Support Is Available!
Our school has a team of teachers and aides who provide reading and math interventions to students who qualify and may need additional assistance. Some students receive interventions throughout the school year while others may only need help from time to time. We have trained staff who can provide these necessary interventions.
Students who receive this support, often referred to as Title One or LLI, are not removed from core instruction. Instead, they mainly receive support during non-instructional times such as silent reading time. The interventions are conducted in both small group settings and/or within the general education classroom. You will be informed if your child is receiving these services so please look for a special “Parent/Student Compact” coming soon.
If you do not want your child to receive this support, please contact either your child’s teacher or Mrs. Conover, principal by October 2, 2021. (This information has been previously shared).

Change In End Of Day Pick Up?
Any bus changes must be approved by the principal at least 24 hours in advance. Students are not allowed to take alternative buses home unless their is an emergency situation. Please do not use bus transportation as a means of transporting friends for after school social or extracurricular events. Our buses have capacity limits and we cannot add students to bus routes. We care about the safety of our students and therefore must closely monitor ridership on our school buses.
