Stilwell Monday Message

Weekly Student and Family Communication

Monday - 9/21/2020

Good Morning Stilwell students and families,

This week starts the fun with Homecoming. Check out the dress-up days below and we encourage both on-site and online students to participate in the fun.

We would like to thank current and former Stilwell staff members for honoring former Principal Les Aasheim who pass away in March. New benches and a peace pole have been placed in our courtyard to honor his memory and commitment to Stilwell Junior High. Check out the link below for more about Mr. Aasheim.

Our students have been busy learning within our Family and Consumer Science classes. Check out the pictures below to see how students have been showcasing their learning

IMPORTANT: Onsite Learners

An onsite student that shows up online without being called into school is considered absent even if the student accesses the virtual classroom. This temporary transition to online must be set up with the office/classroom teacher ahead of time for this to occur and for the student to be counted as present for attendance.

Stilwell Student Council

Do you want to make a difference this year? Do you want to be a part of something

bigger and take a leadership role in our school?

If you answer yes to either of these questions Stilwell Student Council might be the place for you. Join us on September 21st in Mr. Atterberg's room at 2:45 pm for the first inaugural split student council meeting. If you have any questions please contact Mr. Atterberg or Ms. Arteaga.

For interested online learners please join using the provided Student Council Google Meet Link

Highlighting Learning

In our family consumer science courses our students have been very busy.

  • Culinary - The culinary students have been learning all about safety within the kitchen. This includes using culinary utensils such as knives and ovens safely. Students have also been learning about kitchen sanitation and cross-contamination. Check out some student videos below.
  • Textiles - The students in textiles were tasked with sewing their own face masks to showcase the learning and application of their sewing skills. Some students accessed sewing machines while others chose to hand sew. Check out these creations in the pictures below.

Building Opening and Closing Hours

Each morning the building will open to students at 7:20 am. Students riding their bikes, walk or receiving rides should be using the west entrance that faces Grand Avenue. Students riding the bus will use the south entrance that faces Vine Street. We ask that students continue to social distance during this time.

Each afternoon the building will close to students 10 minutes after the last bell. This would be 2:45 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and would be 2:00 on Wednesdays. We are asking that all students have left the Stilwell campus 20 minutes after the last bell.

Big picture

After The Bell

After the bell is an additional opportunity at the end of the day to get support with learning from a certified teacher. It will start on Tuesday, September 8th in the Stilwell cafeteria. Students will receive an additional snack using social distancing and are welcome to stay until 4:00 pm. After the bell will run each week Monday-Thursday. For more information please contact Mr. Peter Bissinger at bissingerp@wdmcs.org.

Parking Lot Protocol

We understand our parking lot drop-off and pick-up process can be time-consuming. However, we need all families to follow the procedures to ensure our students are safe. Please remember these guidelines:

  • Do not drop off your student or stop for any reason along Vine Street.
  • Do not pull into the bus lanes along Vine Street.
  • Do not allow your student to exit the vehicle until you have pulled up to the curb in the parking lot.
  • Please drive slowly through the parking lot and on Vine St.

Stilwell Student Handbook 20-21

Throughout this year you may have questions, need clarifications, or might need to see who you can turn to for help. Please start with the Junior High Schools Handbook.
