FMS Counseling: Mrs. Crawford, Mrs. Horstmeier & Ms. Jo
Needing to see the counselor?
Students needing to access the counselor's office can submit a form from their chromebooks by clicking on the apps button. This form comes only to the counselor's. If you have any questions or need help finding the form refer to the email that was sent today (Friday) from Mrs. Horstmeier. You can also ask your teacher for help. Obviously if there is an emergency, students will be sent to the Counselors Office immediately. This is just a great way to help students stay in the classroom for instruction time.

We are so excited to see you all in the band program this year! There are going to be so many exciting things!
6th Grade Band:
Wow! These first few days of 6th grade band with instruments has been really exciting and I think the students would agree that we have a lot to learn.
This upcoming week in band we are going to working on #11-13 in the book.
The points for band olympics will be added soon. The first playing assessments has taken place and will be updated in the grade book very soon. Students were assessed on correct pitch and intonation. Please make sure your students are practicing. The prize for the winning team will be something that they do not want to miss!
If your student ordered a book through the school, they are in and they cost $10.99. These can be paid for with cash or check. Checks should be made payable to FULTON MIDDLE SCHOOL. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Also, if your student needs any reeds, valve oil, slide grease or any other accessory for your instrument, you can always buy these through the school as well!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Throughout the year I will post things on google classroom as well as through email. Please check your emails frequently.
7th Grade Band:
7th Grade Band is doing so well already!
Students will have their second playing assessment on Tuesday. The students will be assessed on correct pitch and intonation. Please let me know if you have any questions.
We have started our new book, and if you would like to buy one for your child that they can keep at home that is more than welcome. Please let me know if you would like to go that route, and I will get one ordered. You can then pay the school as soon as they come in.
The 7th grade band will be playing at a Veteran's Day assembly at the middle school and we just received that sheet music to start sight reading today. Please encourage them to be practicing at home.
8th Grade Band:
8th Grade Band is off to a strong start. We are doing a lot of review, and the students are responding very well.
More information will be sent home regarding the parade and homecoming by Monday morning. Information can also be found on google classroom as well as email and the newsletter every week.
Band polos are in and the cost is $12.95. Please either send exact change, as I do not have much change, or you can can send a check made out to Fulton Middle School. Please send the money to school as soon as possible.
Band polos, jeans or denim shorts and tennis shoes will be worn for the homecoming parade as well as the football game for homecoming. Students who are in sports may wear their uniform in the parade with the band, but are required to wear their band polo and denim with tennis shoes for the game that evening.
7/8 Wire Choir:
This week in 7/8th Grade Wire Choir we will be working on the Am and Em chords. As well as adding G and G7. Students will be working on chord progressions as well as looking at reading music in TAB.
Students have received new books, please make sure that you are encouraging your students to take care of their books, as well as the equipment.

News from the Art Room
This week we are moving into new projects for most classes. Students are doing fantastic thus far.
6th Grade:
We will continue for our “torn paper animals” project. Continued learning in seeing shapes and forms in our drawing, and applying it. Students will draw a simplistic profile view of their favorite animal, and begin developing a low relief interpretation of their choice. This project will take many weeks to fully conceptualize, and materialize, but students really love the final results.
This project is ELO2 Students will use subject matter and themes in artwork, and fulfills the Missouri Standards FA1 Create an in the round artwork by joining two or more surfaces using layering material. FA2 Identify and use complex shape such as people, animals, or vehicles.
7th Grade: We are continuing work our Elements and Principles of Art section where students will be creating mini posters of the element or principle. Students will work with partners and learn about the Principles and Elements.
Objective: ELO 3: Students will analyze and evaluate art
Key Terms: Elements: Line, Form, Shape, Color, Value, Texture, Space. Principles: Balance, Emphasis, Contrast, , Rhythm
FA3 Describe the Elements and Principles of Art
8th Grade: We are moving into our second lesson.
Objective: ELO 4: Students will explain the connections between art and the world around them
Lesson 2: American Gothic Reimagined
Students will continue working to create a parody of Grant Wood's "American Gothic". Students will work to recreate the portrait with their own modernized ideas. This will be a portrait study with three required subjects in the artwork. This is always a fun project, which allows students creative freedom.
Proficiency Scales: For Art Project Based Curriculum Scoring are as follows.
Curriculum Marks for Standards Based Grading and Proficiency are available to view on the Parent Portal in SIS.
Hey FMS! The FMS Art Club application process is now closed.
Fear not! 6th Graders interested in joining Art club will have an opportunity to apply, before Christmas break, as I will make that announcement when we get closer. I am reserving a limited number of seats for 6th – 8th grade wanting to join Art club second semester. So, if you didn’t make the cut this time, there will be further opportunity to reapply, or apply and join us in January. 6th graders wanting to join must have examples of work they have done. (Portfolio, or sample drawings.) More details to come in December.
I will be sending out announcements for those who made the first round this week, and our first meeting is this Friday, at 3:45-5:00. Please make sure you have transportation arrangements. Since we extended the deadline, it pushed the announcing of people a little off. Thank you for your patience, and good luck!
Mr. Chapman
Thanks for the support, and as always if you have any questions or concerns, please email me cchapman@fulton58.org
Artfully yours,
Mr. Chapman

Other needs are ear buds and water bottles.
We will be gearing up for the holiday season so baskets to make gift packages for students to purchase would be great.
