Our Lady of Mercy
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 2 | 28 JULY 2021
The Year Twos have been having lots of fun learning through excursions, hands on maths activities, report writing, making monster puppets and NAIDOC week. We have been keeping fit and healthy in sport with lots of running and eating delicious fruit during crunch and sip.
World Friendship Day – July 30
This month we celebrate the importance of friendship and recognise the power it has to transform our lives.
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13
Loving Jesus
Thank you for welcoming all people
and for calling us friends
Help us to be sacrificial in our love towards our neighbours
and be willing to join with others to make a positive difference for our world
Thank you for the gift and delight of friendship
and for the care and laughter we can experience together.
Amen.
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
I trust that you and your children are now well settled back into the routine of school life.
You may have noticed some work on the school grounds completed during the school holidays. We installed two new patios, one over the Kiss and Drive area to protect the children from extreme weather conditions and the other one outside Pre-Primary White which will provide protection from the weather for families waiting to pick their children up in the afternoons. Our Year 1 and 2 students are now also using this patio area to eat their recess and lunch.
We had an arborist assess the trees on our property for safety and three trees were identified as needing to be removed. These trees will be replaced by medium sized wide shade trees once the old tree stumps have been ground out. Other trees around the school had unsafe branches trimmed or removed.
I would like to bring to our community’s attention the possibility of remote learning being activated. Given the situation with Covid-19 in the eastern states and with the Delta variant being so highly transmissible, we must be prepared for something similar happening in Western Australia. Our teachers know that a return to remote learning may be given with little notice and are ready to provide your children with the necessary support to transition to remote learning should our state government call a lockdown.
We have a busy calendar this week. Our Year 5 students leave for Camp on Thursday, and we wish them all the best for this exciting excursion. We know that the children will embrace all the learning opportunities afforded to them on Camp. Some of our Year 3 students will be attending a Penance workshop Mass this weekend and we ask our community to keep these children in their prayers as they continue their preparations to receive this Sacrament.
On Thursday this week, our P&F and Advisory Council will meet. All parents are warmly invited to attend our P&F meeting at 6pm and will be made to feel very welcome. The P&F meetings are structured around sharing ideas for building community and providing opportunities for our families to come together to celebrate being part of this wonderful OLOM family.
James 3.3 “We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth.” James illustrates the idea our words, are the most difficult aspect of our lives to truly control. James goes as far as to say that anyone who can perfectly control his words would be perfect and in full control of every part of themselves. As a community, let our words speak power for good over our own lives and those people around us rather than destruction through gossip, slander, rumours and lies. We need to manage the power God has given us and use our words to uplift and support others.
God bless you all.
