Welcome and enjoy!

Welcome to News from the Nest 2.0! This online newsletter is specifically created for parents by teachers. It will serve as a useful tool in providing educational tips and strategies, as well as developing systems that parents can use to work with their children at home on the academic skills being emphasized in the school program. We hope that this information serves as a positive medium in strengthening the relationship between home and school.

Leaving Your Legacy

All For One & One For All (AFOOFA)

In the spirit of "All For One & One For All" or AFOOFA, what will your student leave as his/her legacy? In the spirit of belonging, how do they take care of each other? In the spirit of independence, how do they take care of themselves? In the spirit of generosity, how do they take care of our school and community? In the spirit of mastery, what have they learned during the last three years at Fischer Middle School that they will take with them into high school and beyond? We would love it if you would have a discussion at home about these core values :-)

Which school core value do they value most? We call them the BIGM's and they are...

Belonging, "Significance is nurtured in a community that celebrates the universal need for belonging".

Independence, "Power is available to all by cultivating each person's independence".

Generosity, "Virtue is embodied in the preeminent value of generosity".

Mastery, "Competence is ensured by guaranteeing all children the opportunity for mastery"

Our Kindness Chain in the spirit of AFOOFA

The week prior to spring break, Fischer Middle School celebrated Kindness week by making a Kindness Chain. After a class discussion about what kindness is, looks like, and feels like, each student made a picture of themselves holding a sign that signifies who they show kindness to and why. We look forward to seeing them displayed around the building in a show of solidarity about being kind to one another. For our 8th graders, it will be one way of leaving their legacy in the school! Below are some examples.

Spirit of Mastery: Quarter 4

During the last quarter of the school year we celebrate the spirit of Mastery. We encourage the students to demonstrate what they have learned through the AFOOFA values over the past three quarters, in the areas of academics, behavior, and social situations.

We honor students who have displayed the spirit of mastery in these areas.
