Principal Perspective - Report Cards

On Monday, February 3rd, you will be able to view your child’s report card through ParentVue. We are not sending home paper copies this year. If you cannot access ParentVue, please call our office and we can help you get set up, or we can print a paper report card for you.


The Beaverton Report Card has been developed to share information with parents, families, and students regarding the end of year expectations and targets in the academic areas of Reading, Speaking/Listening, Writing, Language, Mathematics, Music, and Physical Education. Science, Health, Social Studies, and Visual Arts are based on the targets that were taught during that semester. They are not based on end of year targets.


When thinking about report card marks based on end of year targets, imagine a student hiking to the top of a mountain that represents an end of year target. At the end of first semester, teachers share information with you about the distance they have travelled toward the mountaintop (or the target), as well as the rate at which they are progressing. Please see this document that further explains the report card marks and what to look for on February 3.


In addition, we have updated the reporting areas for Mathematics. Here is a detailed explanation for each grade level:

If you have any questions once you review your child's report card, please be sure to contact your child's teacher (email is the best way to initiate this contact). Science Festival:

Friday, Feb 21st. For the shifts below, you will sign in with MyVP. If you have a child that is in 6th grade or above that would like to volunteer, particularly for the demo rooms, please send Matt Hansen mlh1122@gmail.com or Julie Larson julieconnertodd@gmail.com their name and school, and what they would like to volunteer for (they do not need to sign up in MyVP). We also need 75 reviewers* and reviewers also do NOT need to sign-up in MyVP:

  • *Reviewers - we need 75 reviewers. All are welcome to help, moms and dads, siblings in 6th grade or higher, grandparents, uncles, aunts, friends, cousins and neighbors. No experience needed, no prep, no computer sign-up! Each review will be asked to review three projects. There will be a new, quicker way to review each project - more details soon! Just let us know as you enter the building on Feb 21that you are interested in reviewing.
  • **Demonstration Rooms: there are 6 stations and we need a total of 16 people. Shifts are from 6-6:45 and 6:45-7:30, only 45 minutes. You will help the kids stay in line, and assist them minimally with the demonstration. It is a simple and fun way to help out!

We are looking for a few additional people to join the committee to assist with planning and on the event day, February 21st. The time commitment is only a few hours between now and the Festival. Staff Treats:

  • Provide food and drink treats for the Ridgewood staff during their monthly staff meeting. Volunteer are needed to provide treats on March 3rd, April 7th and June 2nd. Treats should be delivered to the front office by 2:00 that day. Three people will coordinate treats for approximately 45 people.   • We are looking for a Ridgewood parent (or two!) to fill the Field Day Activity Coordinator position! What a better way to show your Ridgewood spirit by ending this school year with another fun Field Day?! Family Movie Night

Join us for a free family movie night tonight (Friday, Jan 31) for a showing of Disney's "Aladdin". The movie starts at 6pm in the gym, and licorice and popcorn will be available to purchase with BeepBeeps (no cash sales). Feel free to bring blankets and pillows to get comfortable on the floor.


Please note that this is not a "drop off" event; children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian for the duration of the event.

Middle School Boundary Adjustments

The Beaverton School District has held four (4) community meetings with the Middle School Boundary Adjustment (MSBA) advisory committee. Attendance boundaries for all of the middle schools are being considered for adjustment and the advisory committee is seeking community input from residents in the central and southern part of the District.


The City of Beaverton is planning for almost 7,000 new residential dwelling units in the Cooper Mountain area near Mountainside High School over the next 10-15 years. Which middle school(s) should serve these new developments? Do you have reasons why your neighborhood should attend a different middle school? Do you understand that changes to attendance boundaries in the north part of the District will impact other attendance boundaries? Are you concerned about the potential for the size of student enrollment at middle school?


If you are concerned about any of these questions, or if you have other questions about the MSBA project, please visit the District's MSBA web page (link). Read the materials, visit the advisory committee calendar, and/or submit written comment to the committee. Please come to an advisory committee meeting or watch the meeting livestreamed in real time. The district wants and needs to hear from you.

Kindergarten Registration Now Open

Kindergarten registration for the 2020-2021 school year is now open! If you have a child who will turn 5 years old by Sept. 1, please begin the online enrollment process here. In addition to online registration, we also ask that you provide us with proof of birth (either a birth certificate or passport) along with a current copy of their immunization record.


Please plan to join us for Kindergarten Orientation at 6pm on April 9th. Incoming kindergarteners will visit a classroom for fun activities while parents meet in the school gym. Information will be shared about curriculum, registrations, and support services for your child.

This event is intended for parents and prospective kindergarteners. You are welcome to bring siblings, but no childcare will be provided.


Please complete your online registration by March 13th, to allow for verification of enrollment before orientation.

Science Festival

The Ridgewood Elementary Science Festival is scheduled for February 20th, 2020. If you are interested in being a part of the science festival committee please contact Matt Hansen at mlh1122@gmail.com to find out how you can help. You don’t need to be a scientist; you just need to be interested in helping promote science at Ridgewood. There is no required commitment during the school/work day.

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run Coach Needed!

We are looking for one more person to help coach our Girls on the Run after school program Mon/Wed. from 3:05-4:35. As a Girls on the Run (GOTR) Coach, your role will be to inspire and encourage girls to realize their full potential! Over the course of 10 weeks you’ll connect with your girls through the GOTR lessons that cover subjects such as loving oneself, celebrating others, and connecting with their community - all while helping them work toward their end-of-season goal, finishing a 5k! Inclement Weather Procedures

With the possibility of winter weather in the forecast, it is important to be aware of district procedures for inclement weather. The District generally posts the announcement of delayed school opening, school closure, and snow routes by 5:30 a.m. The best way to find out about delays and closures is by checking the BSD website directly. Also, all local TV news programs will broadcast this information and post it on their websites.


The District will also notify parents via School Messenger. You may manage your communication preferences in SchoolMessenger InfoCenter.


At Ridgewood, only bus route 153 has potential snow routes; all other buses will run on normal bus routes. If your child rides route 153, please familiarize yourself with the snow route schedule, here. Be aware that students are not assigned to a particular snow route stop; families should use the stop that is the closest/safest choice based on their particular neighborhood. Also, buses that run on snow routes on their morning route will always use snow routes in the afternoon (even if the weather has cleared by then) and students will be dropped off at the stop where they boarded that morning.

Ridgewood Collects Box Tops!

Please download the new APP! After shopping, just scan your physical receipt within the APP and we get an automatic addition to Ridgewood’s account. It is VERY easy! If you have any remaining clipped Box Tops at home, please submit them by FEBRUARY 15th. This program is phasing out completely and that is our last submission date for clipped Box Tops.

Change of After School Plans?

If you need to let us know about a change of end-of-day transportation plans, please call or email the office no later than 2:00pm. You may call the office at 503-356-2440 or email us at

RDGWD-communications@beaverton.k12.or.us. Please do not send emails to individual staff emails, as we won't get the message if the staff member is out that day.


The 2:00p.m. deadline allows us to communicate the changes to all affected students and teachers prior to dismissal. Since we typically have a large number of changes each day, we may not be able to accommodate your request if you call after 2:00p.m.
