Join DECA as a Professional Member and Support THS DECA!
As part of our fall membership campaign, THS DECA is looking for staffulty members who would consider being a professional member of our chapter. What does this mean? By adding you to our roster, you will help our chapter reach its 2018-2019 professional membership goal of 40. Last year we had 20 professional members on our roster, but Texas DECA has challenged us to double that number, for this school year! Also, if you have time, professional members can help students as they prepare for competition.
Last year, our overall membership goal was achieved with 78 students and 20 professionals. We received recognition at the district and state level for this achievement.
This year we are doing everything online as it relates to membership. I have included a link to our registration form. You can even pay online through Revtrak! Because we are part of a national organization, ALL members are required to pay dues. Professional member dues are $16; $8 is paid to Texas DECA and $8 to DECA National.

Our deadline for professional members to join is Thursday, Sept. 27.
For those who are not familiar, DECA is a student-based organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. Members have the opportunity to compete in various events that foster problem-solving and good communication skills.
Regarding the competition side of DECA, a student can select one of 50 different categories to focus on for competition this school year. This requires a lot of time and effort outside of the classroom to prepare. Some categories are referred to as a “written event” – business plans, advertising campaigns, etc. – that are presented to a judge. Others are role play events in which students are given a prompt and must come up with a solution within a specific time-frame, to present to a judge; these students also take a 100-question test.
Please let me know if you have any questions regarding professional membership opportunities – or DECA itself.
Lastly, this is not restricted to THS staff! If you know someone that may want to participate, please feel free to share this information.
Thank you for your support!
