Mrs. Baker's Newsletter
September 14, 2017
What is going on?
Writing: We will continue to prewrite and draft personal narratives with a beginning, middle, and end. We will complete our district Writing Assessment this week too.
Spelling and Grammar: said, these, they, our, very, with, went
We will continue nouns by working with singular and plural forms.
Reading: Students will compare the plots of fiction stories written by the same author.
Math: Students will practice place value through a variety of problem solving activities. There will be some challenges for kids who are really solid on the concepts and some time for review for kids who still need more practice.
Science: Our focus this week is comparing how heat causes change in different materials. We will plan and conduct several experiments, and discover some surprising outcomes.
Class T-shirt order forms are in Thursday folders today. Please send cash and the shirts usually run small, so order a size up. The kids can grow into it this year. I will be collecting the money and the sizes and our wonderful room mother's will order our shirts for us.
Raz Kids- If your child was a Stallion last year, I pulled over their account from last year to my account. The last year password should work. If your child is a new Stallion. I will be sending their Raz Kids log in home in the next few days.
Hurricane Harvey- Our school is collecting new school supplies for a school in the Houston area that was affected by flooding. If you have it in your heart, send in supplies the next few weeks for the elementary school that we have adopted.
Our Sommer staff, is catering a luncheon for the Houston teachers this Friday to share the love. We cannot imagine what they are going through.
Our kids will be taking a standardized IQ test October 4th and 5th. It used to be called the Olsat, but it is now called the Cosat test. If you could send in head phones before this date. The ear buds that came in their school supplies do not fit in the kids ears well. I don't want them missing directions or fiddling with the ear buds. I would like them focused on the test. I know this is another expense, but we will put them to good use this year. Thank you for considering.
This and that-
