UMY's
United Methodist Youth
UMYs (United Methodist Youth) is a weekend retreat for United Methodist youth in grades 9-12. The youth and their adult leaders spend a weekend singing, worshipping, and praising God, and participating in activities with workshop presenters and inspirational speakers. It is also a time for like-minded youth to meet, form new friendships, and strengthen existing bonds.
Who should attend?
Youth in grades 9-12 only. One adult chaperone per every four youth is required. Chaperones need to be older than 21 and of the same gender as the youth for appropriate supervision in the sleeping areas. For example, if one male youth and three female youth attend, both a male and female chaperone must accompany them. Youth and adults may be placed in separate but adjacent rooms.
What happens at UMYs?
Youth and their leaders arrive at the Double Tree, Park Place on Friday afternoon. Check-in begins at 5:00 p.m. Participants gather as a large group at 8:00 p.m. to hear a guest speaker. (No supper is provided Friday night.) The rest of the weekend is filled with small-group devotions and discussion, workshops, free-time activities, singing, praise, and fellowship. The environment is casual and friendly. Participants may wish to bring money to participate in fund-raising opportunities for the Youth Service Fund. All meals and activities will take place at the hotel, which has a swimming pool, and exercise room.
What does it cost?
The fee for the weekend retreat is $150 per person (youth and chaperones), which covers all meals at the event, lodging, activities, and a t-shirt. Full payment is required with registration.
What if I need to cancel?
Full refunds are available for any reason before January 7. After January 7, refunds minus a $10 processing fee may be given only in the case of illness or family emergency. Substitutions are always permissible.
Who puts this event together?
The UMYs Design Team, composed of senior high youth from across the state. This group comes from the Minnesota Annual Conference’s Youth-in-Action Team.
