The Gift of Time
Greetings Raider Nation --
December is here and with its arrival comes something I like to call, “The Gift of Time.” I deliberately scheduled little to no meetings this month. Moreover, for the entire month, staff may leave directly after students are dismissed – enjoy this “Gift of Time!”
Please mark your calendars as next Monday there will be presentations during PIP. Believe it or not, we have begun preparations for scheduling for 2019 – 2020. A portion of this PIP will be devoted to procedures for next year.
Our Raider Time endeavor continues to ameliorate each week! Thank you to everyone for all of your feedback. Just a reminder that you must ensure that your second period registers to go somewhere or they will remain with you. For those who have different rooms, please coordinate with a “buddy teacher” to accommodate your Raider Time. Ultimately, we will begin to have accountability during Raider Time as we do in other periods. On a positive note, a parent arrived to pick up her child during Raider Time last week and using the website, we were able to locate the student! We are getting there!
On December 18, we will have 200 future Raiders here from our feeder middle schools to take part in the first (annual) STEMapalooza Fair. It is an opportunity to expose students (female and minority students in particular) to engineering and computer science. A HUGE thank you to Jean Fregeau and Carolyn Pilcher for the all the work put into to making this happen.
December 19 is designated as Alumni Day. Students who have graduated from Atholton will return to speak to our juniors and seniors about transitioning to college and/or the world of work. More on this day, led by our Student Leadership Cadre (SLC), is forthcoming.
The AHS PLC has finalized its schedule for professional learning for the remainder of the school year. The focus, “What are the values most important in the Atholton community?” will require the staff, students, and community to examine what is important to us as a community. This kicks off with our January staff meeting on the 7th. More information to come on this initiative! For now, please make the following change on your calendar – STAFF MEETING on January 7 and DEPARTMENT MEETINGS on January 14.
Lastly, I know I sent something out on Friday, but I want to thank everyone again for pitching in and offering to help with the ice cream Honor Roll celebration. It went extremely well due to the fact that everyone worked together. A special thank you to Jamie Melcher who was an integral part of the success!
I apologize for the lateness of the newsletter this week. I will see you all in a few hours!
Robert
