November Update: 11/1/20
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:
Dear Boulder Creek Families,
November is upon us. It brings with it a new trimester, Veteran’s Day, Parent/Teacher Conferences, and Thanksgiving. It won’t be long now, and we will be wrapping up 2020. Time is flying by.
We finished up October and the first trimester showing a huge amount of school spirit by dressing up for each of our Red Ribbon/Spirit themed days. I had the great opportunity to see students at the gate each morning. We have some amazingly creative kids (and parents)! In addition, we had a very successful Halloween dress-up day on Friday, October 30th. Students were respectful of the costume guidelines and there was great participation overall. As a result, this may be a tradition that continues hand-in-hand with Boulder Bash in future years to come.
November is a month of showing thanks. I am thankful for the multitude of wonderful families we have who are a part of the extended Boulder Creek Family. The partnership we share in the education of our children is invaluable.
Sincerely,
Tina Croes
VIRTUAL PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES, Nov 16-20
Parent/Teacher Conference Week is coming up November 16th-20th. This is the week before Thanksgiving Break. Because of campus restrictions this school year, we will be holding all parent/teacher conferences virtually. Some teachers may request that your child be present during the conference as well. You will need to access your child's report card during your virtual meeting which means you will need to log-in to your Parent Portal to do so. See Parent Portal information to the right.
Because of the format of conferences and because of the volume of students each middle school teacher has on their rosters, middle school teachers will be meeting with students with whom they have concerns. If a conference wasn't scheduled for your middle school child, you may still request one by contacting your child's homeroom teacher. Teachers will send information home soon.
Your teacher will notify you of a date, time, and link for your virtual conference if he/she hasn’t done so already. The best way to help your child with his/her success in school is to play an active role along with the classroom teacher. We look forward to sharing your child’s first-trimester progress during conference week.
PARENT PORTAL LOG-IN
All parents, including new parents, should have logged into the Parent Portal at some point this school year. Why do you need to create a parent account? This is a secure platform through which you will receive your child’s report card, complete enrollment, and complete the necessary beginning of the year school forms like your child's emergency card. In the future, this is also how state testing results will be communicated.
Please log-in to the Parent Portal BEFORE your scheduled parent/teacher conference to make sure you can do so smoothly. While you are in the parent portal, please check under the GENERAL tab for any forms you have not yet updated and complete those forms. We always need current emergency information for your child. In addition, some incomplete forms may be hindering your child from accessing resources such as library books. Thank you for your attention to form completion.
Click HERE for the link to the parent portal. If you cannot log-in successfully, please email our tech helpline at help@eesd.net. Be sure to keep your log-in information in a safe but accessible place.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOUR CHILD IS A CLOSE CONTACT?
It is very important that we follow this procedure in order to reduce the possibility of exposure at school. If we have exposure at school, there is a very good chance a cohort (class or grade level) may need to quarantine and return to Distance Learning (DL) for a period of time.
There will be times when cohorts of students are unavoidable, and we understand. However, timely communication may help us minimize such occurrences.
Besides keeping your child home because he/she is a known close contact, please keep children home if they show symptoms in order to minimize exposure and illness to all colds, flu, potential COVID, etc. When our staff is ill, they are required to stay home. We could move to DL because of a shortage of staffing.
Thank you so much for your cooperation and understanding.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
Under What Circumstances Could Boulder Creek Students Move to Distance Learning?
Directive of public health
Positive cases at a school site(s)
Inadequate staffing for classrooms (due to staff illness or quarantine)
A decline in county conditions resulting in a move to the “widespread” tier
What Are the Phase 3 = In-Person Learning with Restrictions?
- EVERY MORNING BEFORE LEAVING FOR SCHOOL take your child's temperature and run through the EESD self-screening checklist. See the CDC symptom list. Students and adults with any of the symptoms on the list should stay home and notify the office.
- Students will arrive as close as possible to the start time (see bell schedule below) of the youngest child in the household. There will be no early drop-off as the playground and cafeteria will be closed per Shasta County Public Health and the need to not mix cohorts of students. Students will go directly to their classes upon arrival and will not be allowed to congregate on school grounds.
- Adults/volunteers are not allowed onto campus without a pre-approved appointment. ALL adults must wear a mask when on campus.
- We will make an exception to the above in the mornings for Kindergarten students only. Parents wearing a mask may walk K's to the exterior classroom door and leave promptly.
- ALL students (TK-8) will wear a mask and practice social distancing when arriving on campus and departing at the end of the day, as these are our highest traffic times. PLEASE BE SURE YOUR CHILD LEAVES THE HOUSE IN THE MORNING WITH HIS/HER MASK. If you need help obtaining a washable mask for your child, please contact your child's teacher or our school office.
- ALL 3-8 students are required to wear a mask while on campus with the exception of lunch, as they are eating, and during outdoor recess and PE times. K-2 students are also encouraged, although not required, to wear a mask while in class.
- At a minimum, all students will be asked to wash and/or sanitize their hands every time they enter or exit the classroom.
- Students will need to maintain social distancing wherever feasible while at school. They should always follow the directions of their teachers or support staff.
Please review these rules with your child so he/she knows what is expected before they return.
Q: What are the Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures at Boulder Creek? What about students who walk?
Grade-Level Start and End Times
If you have more than one child at Boulder Creek, your family's start time is decided by the start time of the youngest child in the family. Teachers know which of their students are older siblings and therefore will not mark them tardy for coming in a little late. This flexibility is built-in because we can't have younger siblings on campus early with no place to go. Please see the times below and drop-off accordingly so all children in the family can go straight to class upon arrival.
School Start Times:
6-8 grades begin at 8:00 am (classrooms and the front office gate will be open at 7:45)
3-5 grades begin at 8:07 am (classrooms and back lot gate will be open at 7:52)
K-2 grades begin at 8:15 am (classrooms and Kindergarten front gate will be open at 8:00)
Students will be released from class based upon the dismissal time of the youngest child in the family. This way, parents will not have to wait for two or three dismissal times. This helps us clear our parking lots must faster and avoid long periods of time with many students in our pick-up areas. Students will be walked to a designated pick-up area (see below) and remain with their teacher/classmates. If they have an older sibling(s), the sibling will be excused from class early to meet their youngest sibling at the designated pick-up area. Please coordinate this with your children.
School End Times:
4-8 dismissal @ 1:10 pm (teachers on duty in assigned lot) until 1:25 pm
K-3 dismissal @ 1:00 pm (teachers on duty in assigned lot) until 1:15 pm
It is crucial that your child/children are picked up from school on time. We do not want them to mix cohorts, and there is no supervision for them beyond their own teachers' duty time.
Assigned Parking Lots for Drop-off and Pick-up
This location is decided by the youngest child in the family. Older children in the family will need to find their youngest sibling at the pick-up location that is assigned to that sibling's grade level. For example, Kindergarten will be picked up in the front parking lot, so all older siblings of Kindergartners will be dismissed at the Kindergarten dismissal time to find their Kindergarten sibling's class at the front of the school and wait for their parent there together. We will be out to help older siblings find their pick-up point. This should only take a day or two to get into the routine of where to go.
Parking Lot Assignments by Grade-Level:
- TK/K (and all older siblings) - Front Lot
1 and 2 (and all older siblings) - Back Lot
3 and 4 (and all older siblings) - Front Lot
5 (and all older siblings) - Back Lot
6-8 (and all older siblings) Front Lot
Please do not arrive earlier than your youngest child's release time (see above), as we want to be able to clear the parking lot quickly for each group. Thank you for your cooperation.
Please review the BC Flow of Traffic Map in order to determine which way to enter/exit the campus from the neighborhood depending on which parking lot you are assigned. Front lot = red arrows. Back lot = green arrows.
GO SLOW IN THE PARKING LOT AND IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Please remember that we have students and parents crossing the parking lots in both the front and the back. Please proceed very slowly and cautiously. Do NOT pass vehicles that are stopped in front of you on Springer Drive or in the parking lots unless there is another lane in which to do so. This is not legal and it is not safe. Thank you.
Walkers at Dismissal
PLEASE DO NOT WALK YOUR CHILDREN IN THE DRIVEWAY ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE CAMPUS! There is traffic flowing in and out of the front and back parking lot and the east driveways are for VEHICLES ONLY. There are no sidewalks in this location. If you walk your children this way, they will think this is an approved practice and it is not. Please use the sidewalk and walk to the west to the crosswalk area. Stay on the sidewalks at all times. In addition, some families are trying to cross Springer in this location when staff members are assisting in the flow of traffic near the east driveway. This is NOT A PEDESTRIAN CROSSING. The City of Redding determines pedestrian crossings, not Boulder Creek. We will be asking you to use the crosswalk. Please understand and comply. Thank you.
